So many butthurt G8x fans so full of excuses. Not only is the car ugly as sin, now it's getting bested by an i.

Also the car was in full DSC on (dsc off or mdm is on the right side of the dash, but it was not lit). Anyway they would have to disable DSC all the was to get launch control and put the gear box in S mode which they didn't. Clearly the car didn't squat either before launch som most likely they just floored it in default mode.
Irrelevant marketing video... At least make the comparison in a more professional manner, i4 is not slow, but you don't need to tie the M3's leg to show how fast it is. If you end up half a sec slower to 100km/h compared to everyone else try to find the problem...

0.3 sec difference in the quartermile is significant. But then a few stock G80s here on bimmerpost have run 11.1x & 11.2x in the quartermile with trap speeds over 122mph: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1855856 I don't think the i4 will get close to these numbers.

This test is clearly not a good example due to poor conditions and obviously from the first run (at least) the G80 was not in launch control mode (see snippet). If I line-up against an i4 at a traffic light I think it's a 50/50 race and that's fine. I'm very excited for the i4 and what BMW i will do next

impressive no doubt. Both are great, however if I had to pick I think I would still pick the M3 butttt i still need to drive the i4!

Videos I have seen with both in LC show the i4 at around 3.5 and M3 xdrive 3.1

So something seems off with this one.

this guy did it in 3.39 seconds (3.1 sec with a 1ft rollout) on not the best surface/conditions when he did a drive on the i4 M50:

https://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/s....php?t=1890994

The two will be close. I'm wondering if they opt to not use LC on the M3 x-drive because it may have resulted in a slower time considering the surface?

They both should have a re-do when it's try and both are set up optimally, but interesting and good video nonetheless.

This is a produced video. Those shots could have been pick-up shots for all we know. These shots don't really prove anyone wrong or right.

And the dragtimes test was decelerating through the qtr mile. Brook said it should be an easy 11.4 second run. Key note though is it finally looks like a car with the 19" wheels instead of the big heavy 20" 285 section tires. Either way, I think the technology is there for BMW to boost this to 600Hp when they think they have a market for an upper level ("competition" type version) i4.

You're right a marketing video proves nothing, it's easier, faster and more reliable just to look at the numbers provided by the manufacturer for 0-100 stats

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you haven't noticed, this is BMW transitioning into EV market. Hype the car at every step of the way; it's faster, it's cheaper and etc. The process of brainwashing has begun.

We noticed alright. The company hasn't changed. You think they didn't overhyped existing ICE car since company inception?

Maybe... Do you think we'll see an i4 do 11.1x at 122?

Take a look at the clocks... the M3 dash shot in race 1 is 15:16, the i4 dash shots in race 2/3 are 14:21 and 14:25, so the M3 dash is an edit in for sure.

I have the ability to buy either a M3/M4 and would have bought one if there was no BMW EV with 500hp.

I don't drive at 9/10ths so I'll be fine.

Do you still need to set the clocks in such a "connected" car? I'd presume it's auto adjusted no?
