£50k on a 2.0 diesel van?

Yep, for the second time we're getting a VW California camper.

We had one for three years; a 2012 180 4motion. Great when it worked but it was rather troublesome with lots of warranty work needed. So we sold it but missed our adventures so much (we have two young kids) that we found the usual holiday quite dull.

So after much thought, we ordered a T6 150 4motion Ocean; the lower powers engine in the last one was WAY more reliable (one turbo rather than two; the 180 is now over 200bhp!), a "premium" dash so posher than the standard vans and the usual VW camper bits; very clever use of space, etc.

We did two 5 week Euro tours in ours and have a month booked from July 31st to Santander (again); also did Scotland and many more trips. We surf a lot (live 200 yards from the sea) so it's ideal.

Both Top Gear and Evo ran long termers and loved them despite them not being what you'd call a petrol heads choice of vehicle.

We'll keep the Subaru Outback and M135i.

They look like this; we're going for dark metallic blue. Can't find a decent photo of one so here's the lighter blue:

Build starts on 7th March; we should have it about a month later.

Sadly Mercedes don't do a factory made camper in the UK; the Marco Polo does look good though!

Not in RSA either - got to take a truck and a trailer for extreme camping. We tend to lodge when we go which kind of kills the experience, but there are some great places

But will admit I haven't been to all...
