iX50 “stop sale” software recall

Hi. My 24 iX50 just arrived at my dealership and I’m being told thsts there is currently a “stop sale” for a recall, something based on software. Anyone heard of this and have any info or ETA on a fix would really be appreciated. We have waited nearly a year for this thing.

Thanks.

Haven't heard anything about this. But if it's a software recall you're lucky. They can probably do it at the dealership quickly.

Those of us who tried to buy an iX a few months ago got stuck for 8-10 weeks waiting for the airbag recall since they didn't have any supply. It was excruciating to wait. A software update should be relatively painless, I assume.

I just got my service appointment scheduled on the very day the airbag remedy became available in Houston. It was a 3 month wait, but at least I had my vehicle.

Jc360 do you have your VIN? If so can you look it up here and see what it says? https://my.bmwusa.com/safety-and-emission-recalls

Hopefully it doesn’t apply to all vehicles! It sure has been a mixed bag so far…

My 2024 iX50 is expected at the dealer this next week and the vin does not show a recall.

That BMW recall site is very limited on what it tells you. If there’s a stop sale, you should see something here (Note: this is not an official BMW site, but it does query the BMW API’s). For example, the seat module reprogramming that many of our vehicles required did not show up on the BMW site, but did show up here which is the same thing the dealer will be able to see. Of course they will be able to provide more information and an actual description.

Four hours at the dealership today to take delivery of the M60 I ordered several months ago; the entire family was there for the occasion! Ordered some accessories, negotiated terms, and felt comfortable with the deal.

After signing on the dotted line, our finance guy had trouble submitting the package through his system. Floor manager guy came over with the bad news: STOP SALE. Couldn’t leave with the car and no details on timeline

Something to do with “when turning the steering wheel and maneuvering at low speed, a driver might accidentally push the cruise control, activating/reactivating it. In certain conditions, this might cause the vehicle to accelerate”

Proscribed fix is a software patch, but no ETA—at least not on a Saturday afternoon close to closing time.

I’m not mad at the dealer but boy was the situation frustrating :/

This happened to me just yesterday. I was making a slow turn out of my garage and accidentally bumped the cruise control button. The car briefly accelerated before I mashed on the brakes. I thought it might be user error on my part, but I guess I was wrong!

I could have sworn that cruise control / DAPP couldn’t be enabled unless the car was going at least 20 mph but obviously that’s not the case.

I wonder if this “bug” affects all recent model BMWs including the latest ICE variants as well? I assume they all use the same cruise control/DAPP system as part of iDrive 8?

Very sorry you weren’t able to take delivery of your car today. That must be extremely frustrating. I hate that BMW EVs are experiencing these electronic glitches because they are such great vehicles otherwise!!

This happened to me too last week, I just thought I mishit something on the wheel. It really surprised me since I was sure I did not turn on the cruise since I was on city streets the entire drive.

Now has me wondering…

Let’s hope this is an OTA update for the rest of us that already have our vehicles.

This is definitely a known issue and quite a frustrating one for me personally since I’ve witnessed it happen multiple times. It’s about time they fix it!

9 months with ix50 and still zero OTA.

But this is a serious issue as my car started accelerating unexpectedly and I had to hit the brakes. I hope this is addressed soon.

Have you done the seat module reprogramming yet? If not, that’s what’s holding up any OTA updates for you. I just dealt with this myself.

Yes, I had that recall completed a few weeks ago, when they updated to 03/2023.45. Still no OTA since.

These are generally rolling updates which means they don’t push them out to everyone all at once. I’m sure it will come soon. Not sure what you’re expecting, but you’re probably not going to notice any differences anyway. 03/2023.53 isn’t going to address what you just mentioned. Not sure they have a campaign, bulletin number, or remedy yet...

My car expected at the dealer today or tomorrow but today he told me about the hold.

The BMW website still shows ZERO recalls for my VIN. This iX purchase has being a nightmare since last August

I was supposed to take delivery on Saturday towards end of day but the dealer told me they had to do a software update. Fast forward a few days and it turns out this stop sale is impacting my vehicle. Frustrating, and a bad look for BMW as they try to get more of these on the road.

| Same here. Probably would have taken delivery this week. BMW customer service has contacted me right now no ETA on a fix.
