Unfortunately, Pure Impulse packages are now being prioritised in the UK too. My order (non PI) has been pushed back from December to April delivery but would apparently come forwards if I added the PI.

Waiting for the bulletin on lazer lights that should be out soon. Will be enquiring about the effect to my order if I add lazer lights alone, or both lazer and PI.

The dealership manager is going to an event tomorrow about the PI pack and I will report any new details. As it stands, in the UK at least, the PI pack seems very expensive for what it contains. 12k for 6k of options and a card of which the details are very scarse. The prioritised build of course adds a lot of value but I feel conned as I was previously told that PI would NOT be prioritised in the UK.

Keep us in the loop Peggsy. BTW, have you got a date to test drive it yet? I'm booked in for Saturday 19th July. Would be good to keep in contact regarding UK orders etc. Mind if I PM you?

Go for it with the PM and I'll do my best to keep everyone in the loop I've been told I've got the first test drive slot. Either the 19th or earlier depending on when the i8 arrives.

My dealer (Florida ) tells me the earliest production date I can expect is Week 36 and if believed I am first on the list. Does anyone have a confirmed production week ? He also said that all subsequent orders (5) are to be ZPW in order to get a chance of allocation by BMWNA. That would take him through August next year.
Am a little concerned that the first couple of hundred the only variation will be exterior color and wheel design. Strange marketing strategy.

BMW seem to have made the whole i8 launch a rather strange affair!

I'm confirmed for week 35. And yes, the lack of variation is weird. But the number of '14/15 cars in the US is going to be less than a thousand, way less than 500 the first year according to some. Then, the couple thousand they plan on building in the upcoming years (in theory) won't be available as pure impulse. I'd take pure impulse with black interior but they're probably only offering one color to keep costs down via scale. I think they'll probably increase prices on subsequent years after "honoring" the price they announced last year with the first batch as other car companies have with popular halo models.

I've been in touch with someone at BMWNA to see if he can assist with getting the Tera world selected for my car. It may be a long shot, or might result in delays to the delivery, but I think the Dahlbergia brown upholstery will go better with the crystal white pearl exterior that I've selected. I'll let you know how this works out.

Just learned that my current build date is for week 32 (August 4), but this is for the Pure Impulse world. My dealer is working with BMWNA to try and change it to a Tera world (with Dahlbergia brown upholstery), which I prefer, but I've been told that the Tera World packages won't be put into production until end of August. I can live with the delay if it means getting the combination I prefer.

The whole i8 launch and ordering process has been quite poorly handled by BMW IMHO.

Things are moving in Leipzig, my Protonic Blue/Pure Impulse
MSRP US $146,500 is now status 111, order accepted at AG with a production number for week 32.
Maybe they are making a batch of these Pure Impulse cars for the US or it a reflection of lack of demand ?

Might be advancing finalized orders. Being a holiday week some people with deposits might be hard to reach and lock in.

As an update to above, adding the PI pack got me re-allocated to December from the delayed date of April. I should hear from the dealership manager who went to the event before it locks down - he has since gone on holiday so need to wait for him to return. Still no official news on lazer lights

Peggsy and I have been keeping each other posted with the latest.

But for the benefit of others on here, cost of lazer lights in the UK has been communicated as being c. £8k!!! (Yes, you did read that right - 8000 UK pounds!, i.e. over $13k!!!)
BMW are asking i dealers to canvass customers who have placed i8 orders who is interested in spec'ing these. At that price and on the basis that I'll rarely often use them (as the lazer section of the light is only in the main beam, not normal headlights nor side lights) I've said I'm not interested (as have most other customers that I know of).

As for PI affecting build priority, this does seem to be the case, but feedback seems to be that BMW UK are trying to challenge this position. However, as my car isn't due for delivery until February, mine appears to not be affected by PI priority.

Came across an interesting article concerning production rates for the i3 and i8. The attached graph is purported to show the rate of production of the US spec'ed i8 (graph on right is total to date).

Here is the link to the full article: http://insideevs.com/bmw-i3-bevrex-p...own-us-bmw-i8/

What are the various production status codes and what do they mean?

Update: found the answer myself at the following link: http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/07/14/ho...d-to-delivery/

Production weeks seem to be shifted from last week. Most orders moving up a little in the queue. I, like Arezzo, got moved up then back a little. I'm 112 status as well with production tentatively scheduled for week 33 (I was originally week 35). I'm guessing as the orders get locked they're shifting orders to optimize factory logistics.

Can I ask where you got this info about the lazer lights, which UK dealer told you. I asked my UK dealer about this after seeing your post but I was told they have none of this information. I really want lazer lights but they are telling me they are not available. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.
