Timing wise it sounds like I'm in the same boat as you are, and I've heard the same time frames you've suggested.

I'm in the second tier of those who placed an advanced deposit around late summer and I do not yet have a build sheet. Only the endless protestations from my SA that my order is in the system and should arrive late spring...

Change the exterior color to Storm Bay Metallic (our 3rd color choice). Our SA is a very patient man.

Here is my build code:

https://www.bmwusa.com/build-your-ow...npj1di/summary

Currently the build has a stone grey interior but may switch to oyster. I like the idea of a softer, less cold textile interior but am worried about stains from inevitable spills and odor retention. Also may drop the premium package to convenience - the only thing I want in the premium package are the fully powered seats and memory function but it's a hefty price to pay for those features.

I'm also going to go with 22" tires because those are the only decent looking wheels even though I am in the Philly area where things might get dicey in winter. I think I would swap out the OEM tires for performance all season tires or switch to dedicated winter tires in colder weather.

Order placed, dealer had an open allocation and estimates late Summer-ish timeframe. They are also trying to translate the "lumbar delete" mystery....

I see a lot a lot of the posted builds have gone with the B&W sound option. I was looking at it too but have opted to stay with the Harman in large part because of Thomas Majchrzak's comments about the B&W in his YouTube review Autogefühl:

Starts at the 16:16 timestamp, he's not that impressed by it, says it's good but that the Mercedes Burmester system is "way better" and that the value - 5,000 euros in Germany - is poor. Obviously one man's opinion and each person will evaluate these things differently but his first person impressions are interesting.

Your dealer has an actual allocation? Mine says new orders go into a pool where they sit until allocation slots become available. He says his system shows just two cars currently in production that are destined for the southeast PA/Philly area where I am. His best guess is I should expect mine by year's end.

Had an allocation from another customer that declined to proceed, so just the luck of the draw and timing. I fully expect mine to be closer to Fall as well, but hopefully before the end of the year.

Each to his own opinion, but I currently have the B&W in my MY20 X5 (which admittedly also has acoustic glass) and it's the best auto sound system I've heard. Coming from B&O in both Audi and previous BMWs. And I did listen to the Burmeister and think B&W is better. Crisper highs, stronger bass. The acoustic glass actually makes a high-end audio system practical, and I confess to guarded optimism with the iX which doesn't have it, but on the plus side is (I hope) a quieter car since it has no engine noise. Not having listened in an iX, I can't really say if it's comparable, but just based on my personal experience I'm hoping it's equivalent. Nothing in a car will match TAD Reference speakers - wind noise, road noise, car noise, small space, but B&W at least has matched their output pretty well I think to the environment of a moving car.

It's too bad you're in the position of having to make this decision sight unseen. I had the B&W in my (dearly departed) 2020 X5 and I had a chance to extensively demo the B&W system in the iX (with my own source material) during a BMW Ultimate Driving Event back in October.

I'm no more than a bit of an audio hobbyist, and I can tell you the iteration of the B&W system in the iX blew the X5 setup away......

my build…

the only option I’m still considering dropping is the Luxury package. I really don’t like the crystal controls and wood panel on center console, but I do want soft close doors, but bmw bundled them together for the US

The M60 arguably makes sense, even if in this case "M" stands for marketing....

I know you didn't ask me, but if it helps, I didn't do it even though I'm coming from an m550 because of both the additional wait time and the drop in range. It's not a big drop, but it's my first EV and I want all the range I can get lol.

Who says I passed on it?

My dealer already knows to contact me once I can build an M60.

However, I am leaning more towards the 50 for the promise of longer range and a softer compliant ride. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get a better grasp on just how different the ride quality and range will actually be between the 2 models before making a purchase. Whether that will come from an actual in-person experience or just from reading others’ experiences on the internet or watching youtube video test drives, only time will tell. I honestly have no desire for the extra performance of the M60, but I would like some M badges without resorting to badge engineering. Vanity.

Anyone considering Sensatec over leather?

It's cheaper and I like the pattern better and no gold on the seat headrest. Just not sure how they hold up or resale value. Looks like most are doing leather or microfiber. I have always done leather but wondering if faux options are just as good these days.

Mocha, which is only available in Sensatec is my first color choice. When I was able to meet and greet the iX, the display model had the Castanea Chestnut leather. This appeared to be generally on par with the X5's Merino leather. However, I was less enthused with the stitch pattern used in the leather iX seats.

Despite that, I spec'd Amido for my order. I've been hoping I might see the sensatec interior before my order configuration firms, but I won't commit to the Sensatec sight unseen.

Went to the dealer and placed an order today, I emailed a follow-up question asking about tracking my order, is dealer’s response below correct? Also, I was not given a build sheet like everyone posts here.

“I've attached your build to this email, it's in the order bank. You wont have a build ID number or vin until we have allocation.”

Sounds legit. All initial alllocations (pre-orders) are sold-out. I’m in the same boat. Dealer did enter my order in the order bank, from which vehicle inquiry reports my name, my SA’s name, dealership name, marked as “customer sold order” with my build’s production status code, currently at 047. If you google bmw production status codes, I believe it’s not until code 150 when a VIN is assigned once production starts, and then I think code 087 when a production number and build week are assigned. Once more cars are built and delivered, more allocation slots are released to dealerships, and builds like ours that are currently queued up in the order bank are assigned to the open slots. Here’s my latest printout from my build’s vehicle inquiry for comparison…

Well seems like I lucked out, ordered in late December expecting a long wait with no allocations. Fast forward to a week ago and my SA says they’ve had a cancellation and he’s submitted my order, then this morning he emailed with a VIN and a May/June delivery.

Congrats on all your build choices. They looks fantastic.

Re all season vs performance, there will be two official winter wheel sets that I know of so far. 1011 and 1012 (each 3k euros in Germany). 21"
