I am looking at a pure EV to replace my Cayenne in a year or two, and the iX intrigues me, need to see one in person (and a test drive) before I will order. Also looking at a Taycan 4S Cross Turismo (on waiting list for an allocation) and have a $100 deposit down on the Hummer 3X SUV. As far as people complaining about range, I get it, but I will be keeping my Cayenne as the road trip vehicle and the BEV will end up being my around town ride (so 97% of my driving). I think most people are fine with 200-300 miles of range as the daily driver vehicle, I can plug into my level 2 EVSE whenever I want and wake up to a "full tank". If you're on a BMW forum, you should be able to keep some sort of ICE vehicle around for long distance trips.

Ha…If I'm lucky I make it 175 miles with my e92 M3.

Looks like BMW is now stealing design language from Nissan.

My pickup truck does…and after 3 minutes at a gas station it has another 500 mile plus range
Exactly. The main reason many people aren't adopting EVs is because of paltry range
That and charging availability. It's trash in most countries. Anywhere that isn't an urban center will see extreme competition for the few chargers between major destinations. gonna be lots of overnight slow charging.

I do in my X5 40. I've driven cross country a few times and on eco mode get 500 miles. I'm waiting for electric cars to get that far too and be able to fully charge in 30 mins before I invest in them.

...side note for those that actually care about BEV's....

This is a great product, now...I wonder how much of the output is due to the battery vs what the motor is capable of without additional discharge. limitations.

...asking for someone who has an i4 M50 on order

Well, i4 based on the CLAR platform was awarded with one of the most efficient EV out there, and head-to-head with a Model 3. And i4 outruns a M3P in recent CarWow's drag race.

And EV is not only about acceleration and range. iX is one of the most refined and quietest EV on the road today.

Fully loaded same price as a base X5m... Granted, this isn't an M..just an M lite

Also food for thought ....duel motor...if they had used 2 of the same rear motors..one in the front...it would have been 966hp...

If they would have done a quad well like Rivian or Rimac, it's 1932hp...

It would have horrible range but for sure vomit-inducing thrust.

Outside of US not everyone has a driveway, so you can't just hang a cable out the window to wherever your car is parked down the street.

Family can often be a couple of hundred miles away / another country and there is an inconsistency between availability of charging networks.

Don't disagree that for family vehicles it would be ideal to move off fossil fuels; but don't think we're in 384 question mark zone, yet.

Looks like it will do 240km/h also compared to the current 40/50 that is capped at 200.

In my country chargers are available, and to me it would not even make sense to make cars do more that 500-600km in one charge. I bet other countries will get there also within 5-10 years or faster.

When you have enough chargers the only thing that makes sense is to make batteries smaller as the tech gets better. 1000km, 200kw, 500kg battery packs are completly pointless for 99.5% of people to carry around.

I ordered the i4 as my first pure EV. Had the chance to test the iX and its an amazing car in many ways. Its a very big and comfortable car. Im not a SUV fan, but compared to my G30 it felt like sitting in the back of a long wheelbase 7 series in comparison. I think its a car you need to try and see for yourself before you can tell what it really is. Does not matter for people that are not in the market for a 100k SUV i guess, but its not a car that will fail thats for sure.. 😂

I agree about the range anxiety and battery packs. You carry around all the "stuff" just in case you need it "one day" (a year).
They need to make the powertrains and "energy units" more modular.
But the marketing for everything is to always "get more".
This is the equivalent of buying 10L of ketchup in Costco because... (fill in your existential reasons).

Now, back to the car stuff...
I'm not an SUV fan at all, but the front looks good. Unfortunately, the rear quarter is horrible with that extended side hip up and it ruins the side profile too, IMO.
I think the i4 M50 looks great for a sedan and I can't wait to see other variants of that.

I'm an old git and feel that these cars are now being designed for youngster's (if they can afford them!).

Why didn't they just ship it with a PlayStation controller?!
