Which spring rate did you choose for your BC racing coilovers?

I went with their standard recommended kit (4/4).

Did you test them yet?

I'm planning to buy BC racings too but wondering if the spring rate should be lower for a comfortable ride.

No, I’m still waiting for mine to turn up. I’m happy to let you know how I get on if you can wait a few weeks. If I can’t successfully install the extenders, I’ll be getting them to install the coilovers a half dozen or so clicks from the softest setting, and hope for the best.

Hey Michael,

yep, basically an uninstall just to adjust dampening. If these allowed for adjusting from the bottom, that would of been great, but ive yet to seen any of the asian made (BC, Megan, etc) coilovers be adjustable from the bottom of the strut.

I never bother exploring getting any extenders to adjust because of how tight the front was, and well, the rears, you'd have to cut into the CF frame to even get access to it. Not worth it.

I no longer have the vehicle but am happy to see there's a lot of you guys taking the leap!

Did you consider getting damper knob extenders? I think if you remove the rear boot trim, the top of the rear strut towers might be accessible. Having checked the front of the vehicle, the top of the strut mounts are tucked a bit further back under the wiper motors. There does however seem to be very little clearance above the top of the strut mounts to allow the extenders to be fitted.

It’d be interesting to know whether you investigated this as an option, and if so, whether there is sufficient clearance to fit the extenders.

Thanks mate
Michael

Hey Derrick

Thanks for the response. I had my BC Racing coilovers installed today. I can confirm for anyone thinking about install extenders that it isn’t possible. My installers drilled a small hole through the CF frame (with my consent) on the front, but once the extenders were installed on top of the coilovers, there wasn’t enough clearance at the top of the strut towers to tighten up the top mounts. On the rear, we drilled through the first layer of CF Frame, but there are multiple layers, so in the end we gave up.

I’ve set mine up 5 clicks from the softest settings, and the ride feels good. No compromise whatsoever in ride comfort, but with the advantage of a 50mm drop.

Another quick question if you don’t mind. With the 20mm/15mm spacers installed with your drop, did your tyres scrub at all?

Thx
Michael

Hey bud, I just had my BC Racing coilovers installed, with the standard spring rates. 5 clicks from the softest setting. The ride comfort is very close to the OEM i3s springs...I can’t really tell the difference yet, albeit I’ve not taken it for a spirited drive yet.

Anybody know if all BC Racing coilovers for the i3 are the same? I-91-BR is the only part number I can find. I’m looking to get a set but there’s a 4-8 week delay from the factory. Some sites list the coilovers only for years 2014-2017. Some 2017-2019. Doesn’t make sense and it’s always the same part number… I’m guessing it’s safe to order any in stock yeah?

I ended up ordering from BCR to be safe, but the part numbers are the same, so disregard the off-putting MY dates some sites list. These fit just fine on my ‘21 and will probably fit every other MY.

2021 i3S BEV with BC Racing coilovers and 15/18 spacers (though it does rub in the front with minimal body roll ) may go with 12mm up front… we’ll see.

Massive thanks to derrick for the inspiration and documentation!

(well, I'd do a tune ASAP if it let me have full power from 0mph and got rid of the top speed limiter)
Not being able to mod it is also one of the things that drew me into the i3.

I’m wondering what the roof wing does besides look cool... it does look cool, and the 2”+ drop really sets it off. I’m heading down to Anaheim tomorrow for a similar altitude adjustment . Also excited to see how a 12/15 spacer setup helps too.
