When do you think there'll be an i8 successor?

I am a bit saddened as my i8 roadster lease is almost up and that the i8 got discontinued. The i8 roadster has been my favorite car ever and a true joy to drive. The instant torque is awesome but 600+ hp wouldve been proper for a car that looks and weighs as little as the i8.

The MNext wouldve been super cool but the plans got discontinued with covid. Any idea when a proper i8 successor might be reintroduced?

I suspect the next round of normal M3/4/5/8 will be electrified. Not sure just how close one will be to an i8 though.

I was really looking forward to the MNext with a powerful B48 and more powerful electric motors to get over 600hp in total as an upgrade from the M6 but I feel it will need to be a 992 or an F12/812 instead.

There won't be one. And worse than that is that BMW seem to have given up on full CF cells.

And even worse.... B I G grilles

i3 and i8 are anomalies for BMW. All their other cars without exception are overweight.

Even more compelling reason to retain the i8.

Can't get comfortable with the Roger rabbit grilles either. Perhaps someone will be able to capitalize on this design flaw with a tasteful aftermarket modification to the ginormous grilles.

I still have 2 years left on my i8 roadster and I'm already thinking to keep the car or buy a used one when the lease is due.

Every time I decide to sell my i8, I can never quite bring myself to do it.

It's such a great all-rounder and GT car.

I couldn't agree more. There's nothing out there that's quite like the i8.

Agreed. I loved my 1600ti, then 2002tii, both fitted w LSD, bilsteins, weight loss diet. Light weight cars, great visibility, superb steering, reliable for ever.

Fast forward to E90 335, tuned, LSD etc., great car. Then F80 M3: very capable and comfortable car, but relatively isolated driver feel. A bit porky.

The i8 drives more like the 2002: CF is super rigid, 3300lbs feels nimble. AWD is a bit cumbersome to powersteer, visibility is compromised, and braking is not supercar. That said, mild weight loss diet, tune, and Michelins make it my favorite bimmer ever. I am too young to have had a chance to drive a 507.

Agree completely as well.
I've got 2 years left on this lease.
If there isn't a good option for my next daily driver, not sure what to do.
The residual on these cars is too high to consider buying the car at lease end.

I have seen 3300lbs posted elsewhere as the kerb weight, as well. I weighed mine on a scale the night I bought it, full of gas. 3500 lbs even. subtract 6.6 lbs per gallon of gas for an 11 gallon tank. Mine is not 3300 lbs. Even if the truck scale I measured on was slightly off (it is for paper recycling, so it had better be pretty good), its not going to be off a full 200 lbs.

Also I cannot get a clear definition of kerb (curb) weight anywhere. in my case, I was not in the car.

Car and Driver has it at the weight I came up with. (must be a full tank of gas?)

I want to also say there won't be another i8, I can't believe BMW was so far ahead and threw it all away. And I am completely with @jasH here. The iNext/big grill nightmare! I gasped when I saw the picture. What are they thinking?

Its like they took all the bad bits of an i3 and everything else is a design nightmare.

Oh well, I am planning on being buried in my i8 Roadster. At least it will upset everyone who comes to the funeral...
