New 2019 owner
Hey everyone!
Pretty late into the game too, but I picked up a 2019 sophisto gray i8. Located in the bay area so reach out for a meetup! It's been my dream car since early days in college so i'm pretty excited. Comming from the x3m: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1747374 Work in progress for the i8: - xpel - yoke steering wheel - front/rear painted reflectors and that's it! i expect this to be a future classic so definitely reducing the amount of work done to her. I did notice a good amount of issues so far though incase anyone is interested or sees the same: - trunk doesn't open sometimes, I wonder if this was due to low gas/electricity or weather conditions? (yes california) - comfort access on driver side is finicky, i think charging the key battery helped but still takes a good few tries of fingering my car like an idiot - replacing the door strut is pretty straightforward but wow the cadence is pretty frequent it seems - it really is a challenge getting into the car as i scrap against the door sills (hunching around 5'10), thinking about wrapping the sills to protect them too. anyways see you guys around! |

Gratz, its such a great DD.
For the trunk, make sure the emergency pull cord is properly coiled up and pinned against the wall of the trunk Door struts a normal wear item I am 5,11 too, sit on the sill, slide your ass into the seat and swing your legs into place, watch out for jeans with things that can scratch the leather |

Much appreciated. LOL it was pretty embarrassing the first few times getting in, I’ve definitely smacked my head in public |

think about the old blokes over 60 getting in and out. first time I tried it in the dealership, my wife said: :sexy car but you look like a goose getting out...had to roll onto the ground!
after 25000km, much better at it! |

I am 6'3" and much prefer stepping in with my right foot, never touching sill, and leaning back into seat. It helps to initially steady yourself by touching roof until you get the hang of it. Underside of left thigh just lightly scrapes sill.
You might want to look into an extended warranty. Love this car. Sea sucker works OK, but I would be very careful putting much weight on top, and easy on the speed.

yah I went ahead and purchased basic warranty from the dealership since it wasn't CPO or anything. Ahh I see, I couldn't find any other alternatives, it seems suction is the only way to go for these cars. I've had terrible experience with straps |

Its not the sill thats issue, its the seats. The sill is pretty inexpensive to replace sill and there is a carbon fibre version too with some models. I actually tried to get it wrapped and was told it wasn’t possible

The white seats can take on some Levi blue. Fortunately I have the football tan/orange leather w grey/brown heather, and so far they have proven indestructible. Even my Aussies have not left any marks. Yet.

[QUOTE=chris_1M;29648384]The sills covered in alcantara … scratch free ;-)
Wait whoa whoa That is absolutely stunning! Is that custom work or special edition? Really like those seats as well Unfortunately I don’t have the roadster so I can still imagine making more damage with alcantara LOL |

Ahh that would have been great to wrap it up, I did see some carbon fiber after market parts though for the sills but I don’t know if the difference between the dry and resin will make it look weird

Welcome to the club!
like your side splitters on the front. I'm thinking of going that route also. Can I get some close-ups please?

Yes of course here you go! I believe these are OEM aero performance splitters? They came on the car. In fact I’m going to remove these to test out the VOR lip since vorsteiners are discontinued :/ |

Thank you for sharing.
Yes oem splitters came on 19 n up i8 I believe. Yes sucks vorsteiner discontinued it, did hit them up when I got i8, but they don't make the products no more You should be fine if not lowered. If you do get a rep front lip, make sure to clear bra the lip before installing it to protect it. Ps: I see you got the front color match painted reflectors

Haha yah I don’t plan on dropping it for that reason actually, I already struggle with parking at stock height. Ohh pro tip! I’ll keep that in mind! And yup! IND did the rear ones as well (attached some photos, they were the same price as the fronts) |
