Need lease advice

So I went to the dealer this past weekend and looked at some of the i3s they had in stock. I wasn’t looking for the most high end model but I did settle on a 50k Rex model.

The guy was a total jerk and even after the 7,500 federal, 2,500 state of Texas, 2,000 loyalty discount, and 1000 down.

He quoted me at $544 per month! And he said the state rebate would have to be redeemed by me not them.

Is this what the i3s are going for right now? That seems like a monthly payment for purchase not lease.

How much off MSRP besides the discounts you listed? Lease years & mileage? 2017 or 2018?

There is something seriously wrong with this proposal.
Many things need unpacking, from surreptitious prep fees that can run into multiple thousands, to MSD mark-ups that can double the interest rate, to MSRP minus pricing games.

For starters, google your exact car's invoice price for both the base model and all the options. Those usually are around 93% of the MSRP price, but don't guesstimate. Don't forget the dealer kick-backs/hold-backs as well.

Then purge the abbreviation MSRP from any and all negotiation dialogs. Tell the sale-person upfront that you will negotiate on Invoice + mark-up basis if they want your business.

Some will start lying right here and now by telling you that Invoice prices are secret shared only among select Bavarian virgins, that they don't know them, or are not allowed to reveal them. You can choose to play along and shoot down lie after lie, or cut the line and move onto the next sales person/dealership. The latter approach saves me a LOT of time.

Once you nail down the Invoice + dealer profit, proceed to nailing down the fees (#2 black hole) and lease rate/MSD (#3 black hole).

Let me know if you want more info, or my old spreadsheet from 2017 i3 shopping days.

That's a high note, but if you're saying it doesn't include the Fed $7500, that would explain some of it.

My MSRP was a tad shy of $57K, but with all of the discounts, some like what you mentioned, plus an extra $4K off, my lease payment is $486 with nothing down ever on a lease.

It does include the $7500. It’s not including the 2500 additional state refund.

Yeah if you have anymore info for me I’d appreciate it. I really want an electric car but I don’t want to commit to buying one till I see what’s it’s really like to use one daily.

That's exactly the logic that got me into my current (2nd) i3 BEV, that is leased for $249/month with zero down.
Or, roughly, the cost of 4 tank-fulls of gas. In other words, a free car.

I dropped you a PM.

It's sad to see the days of dirt cheap i3 leases are a thing of the past. Mine is 100% optioned out. MSRP: $57,495, Sales Price: $51,725. Base payment is $366.14.

But to get that I had 7 MSD, option credits, and low MF rate. the MSD is gone I believe and MF is stupid high now.

10%-11% off MSRP (before tax credit) is typically pretty decent deal on BMWs.

That's not a great deal. Here's one I negotiated last week that I turned down:

MSRP $56k
Selling price $49500 (11.5%off)
7 MSDs (carried over from current lease)

Rebates:
$7500 fed
$2000 loyalty
$1000 UDE

Post sale rebates:
$2500 state
$450 SCE
$1000 BMWCCA

Zero down
$2000 drive off (tax license reg 1st month)

30 month
10k miles

$220/mo including tax

The MF was inflated so I turned them down. Payment would have been $190 had they used the buy rate MF but they got greedy. They should be more willing next month.

BTW the 30 month on the i3 is cheaper than the 36 month. And yes, YOU pay the state refund as a cap reduction, not the dealer. You get re-imbursed by the state later.

What was the outcome? Based on what you wrote below, the price seems a bit high. I have a fully-loaded i3s Rex - love it... but also thinking of Lease swapping it - solely because of a need for a mountain vehicle here in Colorado.
