Need a new 3-pin charger (and I have a question)
Charger flashes red now. I was too dumb to connect to a surge adapter, so possibly it fried.
Do other non-BMW chargers work on the i8, or must it be BMW brand chargers? |

No worries! Any EV charger with a J1772 (standard) plug will work. Level-1 (120V) or Level-2 (220/230V) will work just fine.
I've charged my i8 from the level-1 BMW charger, from a level-1 charger I bought for the Chevy Volt I used to have, from a level-2 40A factory Tesla charger (with a J1772 adapter), and from a generic portable Level-2 32A charger I keep in the frunk of my Tesla. No BMW magic required. (Otherwise how would you make use of all those public charging stations?)
