Purple hue from the headlights?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hi all,

I just recently purchased a 2016 i8 and love everything about it so far! Has anyone else noticed that their i8 headlights seem to emit a purple hue across objects that they light up at night? Obviously it is most noticeable on white objects like street signs, road markers, and white cars. I found it really strange because when I look at the headlight housings themselves when they're on at night, they appear as a pure white to me, but they still cast a purple glow on things in front of me. Not all of it is purple, just usually one strip of the light - kind of difficult to explain and pictures don't capture it well on a phone.

I do have the laserlight option but I'm not sure if that's the cause of this because it happens with regular lights, not just high beams. Has anyone else noticed this or know why this happens? It's not really a problem or even annoying, just interesting more than anything. Oh, and the new BMW CPO warranty is AMAZING - 5 years, unlimited mile coverage! Love it

Yes, a tad. More so near the top at the cutoff. I think it?s just an artifact of the housing and LED.

It's a red shift. You must really be going fast.

Malibu, this happens even at a dead stop. This isn't really the best picture, but I took it tonight to try to capture this purple I'm referring to. Please see the attached image; the 2nd sign is lit up fully purple when viewed in person and you can see the purple on the other signs a bit, as well.

I've got LEDs and get the same effect - maybe the housing rather than the lights themselves or maybe the color temperature the lights are set to. I like it, looks a little different.

Amazing how the Prius has LED lights and many high end luxury cars still don't

They all do that. Looks cool IMO, from the rear mirror of cars in front of the i8.

I've noticed it in i8 group events for example. Makes the light appear very blue, almost like a police car. Often causes other cars to slow down and move over at night

What Malibu is talking about requires speeds near the speed of light to be observable. It was a joke.

Yours seem like everybody else's. The signs you see in purple happen to catch the top edge of the light beam.
