Acquisition Fee ?

Ran across this over on Edmunds i3 lease forums....

"You can get the $925 acquisition fee waived in exchange for higher MF:
Base MF 0.00166, MF to waive AF 0.00216.
Saves $$ on a 24/30mo lease, not on 36."

I think the above Quote should read... "waive AF" 0.00206, Not "0.00216" ?

This is news to me and it may help the deal I'm working on, IF it is BMWFS that is waiving the $925 AF?
If the dealer is eating it (coming out of dealer profit) then it may not do any good for me to bring it up during negotiations. But if it is waived by BMWNA, then it's potentially a win/win.

Here is what I have so far... Base MY18, i3 REx .
MSRP, $49295
Dealer - $3500 about 7% is still in negotiations, I'm shooting for more.
LeaseCr- $7500
Loyalty - $2000
MF .00166 less .00035 (7MSD's)=.00131, AF $925, 8.75% tax 24mo/15K should be around $308 mo. inc tax with 1000 down/cap dedution.
If I do the .00206 MF (less MSD's) and no AF payment would drop to $293mo. inc tax.
I am a BMWCCA member already but used my annual rebate on a MY19 X3 M40i.

AFAIK, the lease acquisition fee was no longer negotiable or allowing trade off like what you said. Though things change. They use to waive it for any returning lease holder if you asked. Though MSD's went away, then came back briefly this year, and perhaps gone again.

Also you used the CCA rebate in 2018? Because your allowed to do once per calendar year, they dont have to be 12 months apart or anything. I did one in Oct 2017 and another in Mar 2018. Also I cant remember the rules if associate & primary member can do one in the same CY.

I just ran the #s on a $50K hypothetical 36m i3 lease. The MF difference of +0.001 (0.00216 vs. 0.00166) adds up to $35.86/month over 36 months, or $1291.12 over the 36 month period. No bueno.

Same $50K hypothetical 24 lease produces monthly payment variation of $37.37, or $896.85. Barely above $925 acquisition fee.

I agree it makes no sense on a 36 mo lease.

BUT, on my deal, I saved almost $10.00 per month ($220 over 24 months) and that is what I needed to get the payment under $300. mo.

BTW current MF is .00182 not .00166, rates just keep rising.
