Tailgate clearance?

Something I haven’t found in the specs: How much clearance is needed behind the iX for opening the tailgate? Our garage is going to be a tight fit for this beast!

If you mean behind it, just from my brief inspection of the demo, just like the X5 the tailgate opens in an arc - i.e., as it opens, the lower lip of the tailgate is at its maximum rear distance when closed. As it opens, the tailgate gets closer to the front of the car - your garage door could be against the rear bumper and it would clear (as long as nothing protruded from the door over the bumper). You can also adjust the height just like the X5 to clear your garage door fully opened.

Keep in mind that the X5 uses a clamshell design so the top half of the tailgate is not quite as long. Although the iX does have an odd slant in the rear like a Leaf. The point I'm trying to make is be careful using the X5 as a comparison. That said, I think most BMW SUVs have the ability to limit how high the rear hatch opens but that wouldn't help with rear clearance.

Yep. Looking at the video, it looks like the iX rear hatch moves back 6-12" (around the 1:30 mark). So you need to add that to the length when you pull into the garage or measure total space needed if it's close (maybe an owner can measure exactly)....

Did some fiddling with one of the specification images, and came up with an estimate of about 16.5".
