I3(s) AliExpress ambient light -kit compatibility

Hi!

Just completed install of the ambient light -kit meant for f30/31 on 2020 i3s.

Works the same, and after coding, colors and brightness are controllable via idrive.
So cheap an easy solution for the pretty dark neuronic interior during winter.

More details:
"9 Colour Ambient" aliexpress kit DIY & Coding

Misc;
- wires can be ran under seat rails, (there are divets)to prevent them snagging
- front feet lights have places ready, and snap right in.
- for idrive screen led, that illuminates dash, need to remove glovebox and 2 torx from screen holder to get ledwire routed inside the screen "arm", hole for light is already there.

More details, see fortythirtyfive's excellent guide:

Yeah, show this off! I want to see. The only downside of having the Deka interior is the lack of ambient lighting. Anything to help rectify this is welcomed.

Looks nice! My 2014 has lights in those places already, but only white and orange are the options.

Thanks!

Ye, didn"t install yet the door handle & Door pocket lights, as it needs more dismantling than running these.

There's also 3 light bars / strips, that could be installed anywhere, but very happy with the results thus far, as I had nothing before.

This kit has 8 different colors you can change from idrive, only orange and white matches the name in selection, others don't (Blue = green etc), but not an biggie.

Do you have videos or photos on how to get to the idrive to install it? Sides, glovebox and screen are not a problem but I never tried the idrive zone nor the doors

Thank you

Hi!

Do you mean like connecting the control-box to the actual idrive-controller?

I'll add some images I took as was installing the shebang in no particular order (also took image of the idrive y-splitter, where had to snip one plastic ridge away (the blue one from bmw, not the y-splitter blue, nor the black in y-splitter).

So basically;
0. Turn off car (didn't disconnect battery, just idrive and screen off)
1. Lift the cupholder trim by hand, pulls off pretty easily.
2. Disconnect the idrive controller plug
3. Clip in the y-splitter to idrive-controller, lights control box and the incoming cable from car
4. Plug one of the provided lights to the box
5. Turn on car and it should illuminate
6. Then start routing cables and plugging in lights
7. Code & Enjoy
