On a road trip. Turned off phones and iPads because the interruption while driving is very distracting and surprising. I’ve had storm alerts come screeching on while driving in a major storm - last thing I needed was that frightening interruption.
Anyway I expected the vehicle nav to chirp or show an alert (like it displays other messages), but it did not. Radio was off so didn’t get anything that way either.

Weird thing, most likely unrelated coincidence, is after I stopped (about 3 hrs after the test) and shut the vehicle off, CarPlay would not reconnect. I tried several ways and cycled the car, the phone, and the connection (deleted and re-paired). Finally contacted customer support and they said to do a soft reset on the car’s system, and that took care of it.

In other completely unrelated news, CarPlay or Waze has also been giving me other problems yesterday and today. After 30 minutes or so running Waze there is a message about traffic ahead and a large number of minutes comes off of the remaining time to destination (over 1,000 minutes). The distance to destination remains correct but the time to destination and arrival time mess up. I can “stop” navigation, then restart to that destination, and it will work again for 30 minutes or so. Very strange behavior (App is up to date).

My wife checked FB shortly after the test ended and said there were no posts other than ads. Will be interesting to see Internet traffic at Google, FaceBook, Twitter, etc. during the test period, the hour (2-3 ET) and the day. Perhaps more people were aware and turned off devices than we expected.

While I agree that makes the test invalid (as a test of system saturation/overload), I also question exactly what scenario requires a nation-wide alert. I can only think of two: all-out nuclear war (bombs/missiles headed for multiple targets across the continent and maybe HI/AK as well), or an EMP or Carrington-type event on a scale to impact the continent. Everything else I can think of is local, regional or maybe super-regional, but not close to being national.

Agreed - I was enjoying all the tin foil hats in the office on both sides of the political fence coming together to beat this government plan to destroy us.

My favorite was when at 2pm they turned all their phones back on (because that is when one of the girls sons, who has been in jail twice since I worked here, told them it was safe) and they all went off with the notification anyway.

LMGDAO - that was worth the wait.
