Figured I'd start a second post but this could also be a HUGE improvement for the long term reliability aspect of BMW engines, especially the B58.

With Toyota involved, it could be a big kick in balls to BMW to step it up on improving the secondary stuff that regularly fails (cooling system, hoses, GASKETS! i.e. oil pan, valve cover, differentials and oil filter housing to name a few). Or if Germany is so hampered by enviromental policies that they cannot produce longer lasting materials, maybe Toyota can?

this could be a huge win-win for us!

Sorry, but both of y'all are wrong. During the market research they found out that only about 20% of potential buyers would be interested in a manual. There is a big differences between internet fan boys and actual buyers.

For these wanting to save the MT.

Signed. No manual option is a deal breaker for me, at least for now.

For others, here is the direct link to the petition: https://www.change.org/p/toyota-moto...bo&share_abi=1

So I’m an existing BRZ owner with MT looking to upgrade and have resources to buy. Also very fond of the 90s Supra that I grew up wanting.
Nobody polled me and im sure there are ton of ppl like me.

Companies can make the poll results say whatever they want.

Well like I said before, Toyota isn't saying that it won't offer a MT unlike BMW. The fact that the R&D is already done, and ToyotaUSA stated in a recent email that a MT is coming is all good signs.

In other news, a teaser of the rear.

Nice... looks much better than the new Z4 to my eyes - more coherent, cohesive design, and less fussy

I don't think they are making one.

On another note, comparison to the GR Supra concept.

This will be the SEMA car of 2019.

Its an OK design but all the fake vents are a turnoff. The MKIV Supra was much better and even the BRZ/86 are cleaner designs imo.

I wish they just used the MKIV body with the new chassis!

I know some of you are disappointed. Like I said before, according to our inside man, if Toyota had made it look just like the FT-1 (reskin Lexus LC), the price tag would have been over $100k.

$100k or not, if it looked like this, I'd consider it.

I've always wondered why styling is so costly?
why would the looks of the ft1 cost Toyota 40k more to produce per car than the looks of the supra?

I'm sure there will be a number of people with deep enough pockets, but it will be out of reach for the average joe. And this goes against what the design team and Tada san has said about Toyota wanting this car to be available to the mass.

I'm not an expert by any means, but we have take in account that this hypothetical LC base Supra would already be using a very expensive platform to start off with.

Edit: This may help some to better understand the styling disappointment. According to one of the interviews that Tada san did he stated that work with BMW actually began before the FT-1. The two projects were not related. However, after the FT-1 was unveiled it's styling was liked so much that Tada's team worked with the Calty design studio to incorporate some of the FT1's styling onto the joint sports car.

Damnit the concept was so badass, to me that's the worthy successor to the MKIV and not this thing we're getting. I'd rather it be $100k/close to GTR pricing and be a true competitor to that car. Oh well.

You would think having another sports car based on LC platform would help to spread the R&D costs. They also have a new TT 3.5 V6 from the LC500 that they could have put in this new Supra. The LS starts in the $70s not sure why Supra would need to be much more than that.

Toyota/ Lexus as usual just want the path of least resistance and bean counters want to save $$$ hence we got this compromised sports car.
BTW LC500 and LS500 are selling terribly so they could have used another model to spread the initial development cost.

It's easy for those that are not engineers and designers to speculate on xyz and to make statements on how easy it would be to do this and that and price it at such. Supra enthusiast said the new car must have an I6, so that's a no go.

Those that have driven the LC have said it feels nothing like a Supra. The team wanted to bring it back to its roots (2000GT). Where are you getting your numbers from? Yeah it's bad when compared to the S class, but pretty much the same as the 7er and way better than the A8. Can't really make a good LC comparsion, because the S-class coupe & sedan and 6er + GC are all totalled together.

LS: 8,408

I personally don’t believe a word TOYOTA says that it polled anybody.
If they told ppl what would you rather have a BMW inline 6 with 335hp from a 3series or a new Toyota/Lexus 3.5 V6 TT with over 400hp - guess what the answer would be?

The new LS is a huge disappointment.
Each time a new LS generation came out it handily outsold Sclass in 1st few years partly because its $20-30k cheaper. This new one is collecting dust. Lexus is offering $8,000 lease cash to move them in 1st year!
