Is there any technical detail of what are all those components for? In comparison a Tesla has an empty space in front, so where are similar components in Tesla located?

Also, any similar shots of the rear wheel drive 40 model?

Different manufacturer, different design.
Tesla needs a frunk and still does not have the cargo space of the i4.

It depends if i4(17 cu-ft) is compared to Model 3(15 cu-ft) or Model S(25+ cu ft).

It would be the TM3 which the i4 is most directly compared by most folks.

Overall dimensions put it the I4 in between the Model 3 and Model S.

Cargo space also is in between, but the Model 3's cargo space spec doesn't include the ~2 cubic foot under-floor bin in the trunk.

Another downside of using the shared architecture is the significant floor hump behind the front seats. Model 3 (and S) floors are completely flat all the way across, easing 3-across seating.

I4's hatchback improves cargo loading though, at least compared to the Model 3.

Although the i4 is longer all the other dimensions are within an inch of a TM3.

True, but also worth comparing Model Y to the i4 on the numbers, both being hatchbacks / fastback.

Some other numbers relating to the OP question:

i4 M50 unladen weight EU = 2290kg (already mentioned)
M440i Gran Coupe unladen weight EU = 1900kg (same chassis as i4)
i4 battery pack estimates vary - motor press say 500kg - 545kg
Model Y unladen weight EU = 2003kg

Damn that i4 M50 is over 5000lbs. It's so heavy that it creates its own gravitational pull and according to general relativity, near objects will experience slowing of time, meaning it will slow itself down... But at least i will age a little slower sitting inside

The i4 eDrive 40's 4700lb is close to Model LR Y's 4500lb as hatchbacks.

I4 M50i is a big car, I looked at the spec and the dimensions are bigger than my X3. My X3 weight 2000 kg.

I don't believe Model 3 is a direct competitor. Personally I have an X3 M40i, an M4 and I also have a deposit on a Corvette Z8 Z06. I am a gasoline enthusiast, I don't like the Tesla attitude, I don't like their product which in my opinion is cheaply manufactured and comparable to an entry-level product in terms of comfort, finish , strength and durability, equipment offered. If BMW had not offered this product that bridges the gap between a classic car and EV, I would never have considered a Tesla.

I don't care about the weight, I don't lift cars and the spec suit my need. The vehicle is as big and equipped as my X3, I don't fall out of my chair because the I4 M50i weighs a few kilos more than my X3.

BMWs have never been light but their engineer can manage this parameter better than others (the new M4 is not a featherweight).

Sorry. Should have been more explicit. I mean building the BEV on an ICE platform.

Model 3 was never on my radar either.

The weight of the i4 M50 never was a decision point for me. as I stated, I have never looked at the weight of a car before buying.

I look at the fuel efficiency and in the case of an electric; the range.

At about 250 miles it works for me. I can go from my house to Monterey (Laguna Seca) and I don't need a charge to get home. I can also get to Sears Point or Napa wineries.

I guess it's a porker but oh well.

Sometimes, I check vehicle weight, but from the opposite perspective of most here. When two vehicles "meet", the lighter weight vehicle absorbs more of the force. Not the desireable outcome.

I think Model 3 is a better comparison to i4 40, which weighs 400+ less at around 4250 lbs...

It is true while Model 3 is a few inches shorter than i4, its height, width, head rooms, leg rooms, etc, etc, are close to i4.

Model Y is similar length as i4, but taller and wider as i4, with extra interior space.
