NEW 2019 i3S owner :)

Hi all. I have belonged to Bimmerpost for years (X5, M3, 7 Series, 6 Series, M6, Z8 Alpina)...but I just got my first all electric BMW. I did have an X5 40e for about 6 months, but that was a joke (and a nightmare :-O )

Anyway, I picked up my new 2019 i3 Sport Rex last night.

Capparis White, Deka dark interior, Technology package, Range Extender, Moonroof and black 20" wheels.

LOVE it. Just wanted to say Hi to my fellow i3 owners.

Looks awesome! I have a 2017 white i3REX and would love the slightly larger battery capacity... enjoy, it's a great car.

Thank you Redline! I have wanted an i3 since 2014/15, but the battery size scared me a little bit. The 2019 is not that much better than the 17 model, but enough to relieve a little range anxiety, at least for me I think I like the Sport pkg. even more than the new battery.

Hey there! It looks nice! They didn't have this color with the options I wanted so I ended up getting a red one. If I had 2019 I'd probably not even bother with rex.

I kind of considered not getting the REX, but this colour combo and Sport pkg. was what I wanted.
Also, we live in a high fire area (50 of our friends & neighbors lost their homes in Nov 2018), and those with uncharged or low charged electric cars could not use them for evacuations and after the fires, we did not have reliable power for weeks (could not charge cars).
Worst case, the REX can get me around town...supermarket, drugstore, hospital. The REX felt like insurance to me!
Btw, Melbourne Red Metallic was my 2nd choice. Mineral Gray was choice 3. I am really stoked I got my first choice...Capparis White!

The Melbourne red is by far my favorite - I have had an M3 in this color and just couldn't find one with the options I wanted in red - White was my second and it definitely looks nice...

Since this was my first electric car, I looked at only 2-3 year models as they were definitely the best deal. Ending up deciding on the i3 with its cool styling - found a white i3rex for mid-$20's with 9k miles and had it shipped up from Florida to Michigan. I haven't driven my other cars since I got this thing. It is a blast. I wish I had the i3S model, along with a couple other options like the moonroof and the best stereo, but I get great range and charge at home using Juicebox.

Honestly, I think this car would be near perfect if it had a 60-70kwh pack in it. Driving it around to pick up the kids, into towns, etc. is a blast. Small and agile, fun to park. Also, I have coded a bunch of changes with bimmercode, most important is the hold charge option at anything below 75%. When traveling, this is a must.

Anyway, I love your car. In a couple years I might get a used '19 i3s similarly priced as mine, can't wait.

RedlineTuning I am so new to this car...can you explain what the 75% hold charge option is, what it does, does it affect warranty, how to do, etc... What other things can be coded? Thanks!
I bet your Melbourne Red M3 is super hot. I had a 2005 Comp. Pkg M3 in Interlagos Blue That blue was incredible!!!

Download the bimmercode app for iphone or android. From this app, you will see it recommending a few different OBDII ports modules - once you purchase one and link it to your phone, you can then code your vehicle in a variety of ways. Don't be scared of messing up your car, I have been doing this for years a variety of ways for tuning, generally via software on a laptop, but this is even simpler.

Once in the app and connected to your vehicle's computer, you can modify any number of useful things. For one, you can change your i3 over to Euro spec. allowing the REX to come on any time you want, once below a charge of 75%. This is ideal if making a trip because you turn it on at say 50% and it will maintain 50% will cruising down the highway - this will essentially give you the 80miles of gas charging, plus the extra 50 electric once depleted while planning you supercharging stop or fuel up stop. If you do not make this simple change, your U.S. coded i3's rex is basically useless only coming on at 6% charge - and, depending on where you are driving and time of year, the REX will not sustain speed, heat, etc. with this low battery.

Next, you can code out the gongs when you start the car, brightness of halos on headlights, keyfob buttons with hold to roll down windows or sunroof and the list goes on. I made the change the computer for the REX hold state of charge before I even drove the vehicle. The rest I slowly added as I got used to what I didn't like, or personal taste. You can google the bimmercode app settings for i3, it is quick and easy to do and see the multitude of settings that are hidden.

On a different topic, I recently sold my M3 and bought a 2015 Audi S5 which I've been tweaking to perfection... both are a lot of fun, and you are right, the Interlagos Blue is nearly unbeatable as it is sporty and unique. However, I still find myself driving the i3 - it is always charged up and ready to dart around, a blast to drive, your new i3s is even better.
