My initial driving impressions are at the top of this thread, from the test drive. It will be some time before mine is run in and I have a longer term assessment.
My initial impression is it makes everything else seem dated, in performance and ride terms. Aesthetically too, i8 excepted. |

I like both, but prefer the 720S look, which is not too different from the i8 design language in fact. Both have a teardrop cabin for example. |

Wow congrats! The 720 is prob the best all around performance car you can buy. If I had the money laying around I'd have one spec'd like yours. Great looking ride.

It's back from the Detailer
Collected it from detailer at the weekend, and took it to Goodwood festival of speed
It's so shiny now you need shades.... [ |

I took the car to Brands Hatch a few days ago.
Took it easy as it had only done 300 miles, so maximum 50% throttle and 4k RPM. Probably meant I was on 1/3 power. Running in is limited to 150mph per the manual But I used Track setting for handling (driver aids off) and comfort for powertrain (to protect the engine), and also short-shifted manually. Intermediate setting for each is Sport btw. The car was a revelation Corners like its on rails, on the Corsa tyres I opted for. It could just about stay with an R8 and similar cars using so little power. Handling was incredible and so usable and easy. Steering and feedback felt like my Lotus S1 Exige Car got filthy and got lots of tar on it too though But it cleaned off easily with just car shampoo - the ceramic works. Best car I've ever driven my a mile. |

Jas can comment but I've driven all three. 720S is the best car easily. Lambos are way too cramped inside for me. I'm 6'3" with longer legs. 720S I fit comfortably but lambos are not good. Acceleration in all is very good. Performante feels stronger than Aventador. 720S is a whole different level. Aventador is the worst of three as a car but imho is the most attractive. 720S and perf are a toss up and depending on style preference. Overall Perf and Aventador win on sound and sound alone. 720S is just superior in every regard exactly low speed traction but Mclaren traction control is crazy good. 720S can do 2.5 seconds to 60 mph and 5.0 seconds to 100 mph as verified by my friends vbox which for a rwd car is astounding. That's Veyron SS stuff.

Great comparison; hoping to hear Jash’s take also. That being said, your comparison brings up a couple of things: 1) The speed that the 720s has can’t even be remotely tapped into in real-world use so I’m not sure if those crazy trap speeds and times outweigh the sound of a Performante/Aventador, the looks of the Aventador, or faster 0-60 of the Performante, and 2) The 720s is very daily driveable (similar to i8), so you don’t think that the visceral feel of the Performante and especially Aventador with the ISR transmission is worthy of merit? I’m having the toughest debate between these 3 exact cars for my next purchase. Keep in mind that I would get a VF supercharger for the Perfomante (at which point I think it would beat the 720s all around), and a tune if I got the Aventador. Sadly, no one has cracked the 720s to tune it yet as far as I know.

There are tuned 720S's and some exhaust/downpipe mods that add HP as well. Check out AWE/Fabspeed/DME. Supercharged Huracan and stock 720 are basically neck and neck and i think there's a vid of Brookes from drag times outrunning a supercharged Huracan pretty easily from a roll.
For me on lambos, the visceral nature is negated by the fact that I'm just not comfortable behind the wheel. I don't fit! I don't know your general proportions though so you may fit like a glove. Also, they aren't a race car, which I've driven and that's really an experience. The level of engagement in a 720S and Huracan/Aventador is essentially the same. Sound is different, but all are easy to drive slow (Aventador S slightly less so but only bc of gearbox) and are very very quick for public roads. You can't use the speed in any of them on the street but acceleration is so fun in cars today, really no one ten years ago experienced anything like what we can get for $200k. The quirk of the Aventador gearbox even in the S would be annoyance to me, not something I'd find characterful. The Perf has a tremendous gearbox as does 720. Ultimately you just have to drive em all! Different people like different things. |

You mentioned the supercharged Huracan and stock 720 being neck to neck but I think a supercharged performante would be faster and is already quicker than the 720s. Would definitely be interesting to see a tuned 720s against a supercharged performante. Is the Aventador that bad in low speed city traffic even if you have it in sport or corsa?

Jo-Sta sums it up pretty well. I will add a few comments though.
I have driven the Performante (my OP comments briefly on it), but not the Aventador (which you only buy to pose in to be honest; it's not a driver's car). Performante may of course beat 720S 0-60 due to its 4WD launch, but after 60mph the 720S will completely leave it standing. 720S will leave it standing from a rolling start too. Can't comment on aftermarket mods such as supercharging, as you can mod both cars. Factory to factory, the 720S is another level faster than Performante. Other thing about Performante is it does not have a full CF tub, is heavy and the visibility is atrocious. Truly horrible. I considered buying it - until I drove it. The engine sound is its one standout feature. ALA is a gimmick unless you are doing over 150mph+ around bends. Even then, normal aero may well match it. Looks are also quite dated. Forged carbon looks like a kitchen worktop. 720S suspension is so good it's like witchcraft. Steering feel is Lotus-like (best available). And it is very lightweight. I'd actually pick a 488 over the Lambo. |

To be fair, the 488 is brilliant. It's no 720S though. You own the best car in the world right now imho. I can't wait for the LT variant. PS, I recently drove a 570S Spider and loved it. You can get a tune to take it up to 700 hp for under $10k and it'll run a sub 10 quarter mile. Mclaren is on fire.

McLaren has been historically hit or miss on the QA aspect though. A friend of mine just posted this on Facebook about his 720s experience:
“I had my 720S about a month before i sent it back to the dealer. Way too many problems accompanied by horrible service department. Cool looking doors. Would have beeen better if they could keep water and wind out. Problems 1 and 2 of about 10. It was horrible. Folding dash would go uo and down on its own for no reason. Side mirror controler knob breaks. AC compressor bad. Door stitching separating. Wont do easter eggs. Horrible panel alignment. Bent door hinges. Fast AF though.....” |
