I'll miss mine when the lease is up. Ok. Back on tropic - the responses are entertaining.

Haha nice! Yeah my M6 was lowered w/ the Vorsteiner front lip, i scraped the shit out of that thing lol. But this lip looks a bit bigger than the M6 front lip. I'm reluctant but we'll see what happens when I get it

You know you could add (skid pads) at the bottom of the front lip possibly. They would need to drill tiny holes to add them to your front lip though. I added them to the bottom of my bumper cause in my area for some reason EVERY driveway dips down majorly. I guess cause LA has an issue with flooding with even the lightest rains. But at least this will save you from worrying about what driveway to take Now whenever i scrape i know its not my actual bumper that's getting F'd up lol

The metal plate makes it sound horrible.

During my limited time with the drive on the i8, I noticed the interior material is different than rest of highend bmws. Somehow it feels flimsy and light, the cluster is tiny. Maybe it was the color of the interior ( it was gray which I hate the most for an interior color ), it just doesn't scream a 145k car, but then I thought about this car's purpose, is all this for weight saving?

This is an interesting thread. I find the conjecture launched by by people who have no experience driving an i8 particularly interesting. The funniest, by far, is the person who has a "friend" who loaned them an i8 for a month!
I'm chiming in because I may, arguably, have the most driving experience in i8's besides the test drivers in the world. My 2015 is approaching 41K miles. I drive it everywhere. I can tell you its weaknesses: HP, not TQ and its skinny eco tires. Period. End of story. The chassis is stiffer than anyone can imagine. I had no clue until I swapped cars with a friend of mine and followed it at a very high speed clip in the twisties. NO. BODY. ROLL. My buddy said it was an epiphany. I've replaced the skinny eco tires with 255-35/19s in the front and 275-30/19s in the rear. The car has been transformed. No understeer, whatsoever. I am a trained and drive pretty hard and I can't safely come near the limits of the handling on a warm day on the streets. This is how it should have come form BMW. I understand the BMWi mission, but I would have done that part differently. (See what I did there? ) My next move is a tune to increase the power a bit. If I am able to achieve the 413-420 that the 2 tunes I've come across achieve, I'll have more than enough power to harass almost anything on the road. Now, about the NSX: Beautiful car. I first saw it at the New York Auto Show in 2013. It has obviously been through quite a few updates since then and is clearly a car designed by a committee. I do not say this negatively but the fluidic design seen in the i8 is missing in the NSX. The proportions are very good and the car has great presence. IMHO, a big selling point on the overall design is the viewable engine. I miss this in the i8. The lost opportunity for the NSX is that it is easy to tell where they cut corners in the engine bay if you know cars and most people at this price point know cars. The interior is great and comfortable but claustrophobic compared to the i8. The fit and finish are quite good but the controls still feel like a Honda. I only drove it for about 3 miles as it was the floor car but it feels tight like any Honda with the only negative being the slightly disconnected feeling one has when driving nearly any Japanese car. I was personally invited by the owner of the local dealership to attend the launch event. They also offered a private showing and reception to my car buddies, as well. Again, fantastic Just not my cup of tea.

A voice of reason.
And I tip my hat to you for your mileage. I DD my i8, and I got it in Jan. 2015, but I'm only up to 14k miles. I guess I fly too often. ;-) |
