Domestic Terrorism/Treason/Peaceful Protestors

So which is it?

This was originally described by ABC news outlets as "Peaceful protest followed by Oregon wildlife refuge action."

That's how it was described when 100-150 heavily armed US citizens broke in and are occupying a federal building in Oregon.

Thoughts?

It's not a hostage situation so in that sense it's not violent.
But it does seem like a bunch of idiots w/guns is never a good thing.

I'm not for taking over Government buildings, but they have a legit beef.

The farmers who were told they were getting their families land taken by eminent domain, protested and would up going to jail, squatting on "their" land, that was being taken. They have since been released but were just ordered back for another 5 years.

Very tight-knit neighbors felt that the legal system failed them and led to this situation.

There's better solutions than the way the government is handling this.

More to it than simply going to jail over protesting the government taking back their land which was leased to the Hammond's.

The issue was they were charged for arson( burned vegetation during a burn ban while firefighters combated other fires) which carried a 5 year minimum sentence. Some how the original judge sentenced them to only about 1 year in jail. But an appeals court judge said they must go back to jail to serve the minimum sentence of 5 years. Of course they are being accredited time already served. They are not going back to jail for another 5 years.

Can read it here: http://www.justice.gov/usao-or/pr/ea...e-years-prison

While I am not totally familiar with the situation to say whether the government did was wrong or right, what this group is doing is 100% wrong. This isn't a peaceful protest. They took over a building and while they didn't take any hostages, they will fight to hold the building.

Had a debate with a buddy over this because he wanted to call them terrorists. IMO, it's missing a lot of the hallmarks to qualify as "terrorism". They aren't targeting civilians, they aren't destroying property, they haven't actually committed any real violence at all.

Timothy McVeigh is a terrorist, the Tsarnaev brothers are terrorists, Dylan Roof is a terrorist. This just doesn't match up to those atrocities.

There's a lot of he-said-she-said regarding this whole matter, and frankly I'm not qualified to comment on who is right and who is wrong, (there's probably no clear cut answer, I'm sure both parties have screwed the pooch) but I don't consider this to be terrorism.

Treason, or perhaps sedition? I could probably get on board with those.

Yeah, this is an interesting case. I'm an opponent of gun control, thoroughly believe in the 2nd Amendment, and yet I still think what these guys did is wrong, and that they know it, and are doing it to cause trouble.

On the other hand, the whole OWS (Occupy Wall Street) could conceivably be called terrorism under pretty much the same argument. While the OWS movement was not as heavily armed as this group, they were certainly not as peaceable, either.

meh, lost interest when I saw a Bundy was involved.

This is just a media whore attention grab and I will fail to take the bait.

Just put a fence up around the perimeter with a one way gate, turn off the power/gas/water, blast On loudspeakers 24/7 Obama's standup routine from all of the previous White House Correspondents Dinners interspersed with announcements that all of the federal employees are sitting at home enjoying their paid time off.

Then just wait for them to leave.
