There is no way he made these remarks without Trudeau's blessing or more likely instruction. This was a clumsy attempt to manage the Chinese and it blew up in the Canadian Governments face badly.

you don't know me and I don't know you, my question was why the name calling....it's so easy to sit behind a keyboard and use strong language, I'd like to think and try to treat people the same way as if I was in the same room as them. If you disagree with me fine, say so and say why but calling me blowhard or some of the other stuff I've been called on this forum isn't on.

We live close enough together that I'd be happy to call you some names to your face. But I suspect you've been called worse than anything I would come up with, and you likely aren't so thin-skinned in person.

McCallum statements along with his replacement will pave the way for Canada to reset the relationship with China. It almost seems planned.

I quite certain it was planned, he is a seasoned vet with politics and media and he would've been briefed before he did the interviews. I think it was an error on the governments part in dealing with a big ugly international issue. I'm not sure it will make things better but time will tell.

Agreed, I hardly think this is something McCallum just came up with all on his own...I do think it was planned.

Given that this sentiment is shared by a lot more people than just us...if this was all scripted then wouldn't the players see through this for what it is? And if so, why would that help?
