how can I turn off the muffler speaker in my i8
Hi I8 and Other fellow audiophiles
i just installed a new Essing Titanium muffler with a stage 1 and the car sound is amazing. But the speaker pumped in noise now is way too loud at cruising speeds. I have seen an M5 post about changing the code to turn the ASD sound off Does anyone have an idea on who can do this.. Is there a code genius out there that can help me? |

The tech documentation I've read states that if the audio system detects a fault with any of the speakers, then the artificial engine noise will be shut off. So, that leads me to believe that if you unplugged any of the speakers, then the system would shut off.

Also, I can play around with the coding tonight, see if it actually works (it should). BTW, I assume you are in fact referring to the in-cabin speakers. TBH I was a little surprised/confused it would be that big of an issue - the speakers don't add a whole lot at cruising imo. |

So, the same coding data doesn't apply for the i8 (at least not for all the examples I've found). There is no model series ("baureihe") dropdown in the ASD module. I found baureihe under the HU_NBT module, but I'm not confident enough to mess with it.

Perhaps I should look at unplugging the ASD it and I can ask the dealer ( who may be utterly pissed that i committed a sacrilege by changing something to the i8. I know that some company is now offering a Bluetooth controlled ASD |

The one mentioned on this forum or a new one? The only bluetooth based modification I know of controls the actual physical exterior sound generator.

We might have covered this before, but is the cabin exhaust sound an amplified version of the real exhaust sound? In other words, you've got a louder exhaust pipe/muffler and the system is amplifying this new louder sound?
If so, there must be a microphone somewhere to pick up the real exhaust sound? Maybe that be insulated in some way...

The car audio shop I used to install Focals in the doors were trying upsell their amp. They did say they in other BMWs they disable the feed to the amp when upgrading the amp as they don't want the fake engine audio confusing the sound in the car.
Mine was their first i8 and so they've not upgraded the amp. But the feed into the stereo speakers must be supplied to the amp so I would look there on how to disable it - simply remove the connection to the amp from the ASD. |

There’s a button on the app that turns the ASD on and off. The fake engine sounds aren’t actually as loud as I thought they’d be. |

Thank you for your response. Luckily I found a place that can turn off ASD just right after I ask it in the forum. As you said fake engine isn't so loud so there is no point turning it off. But it's good to know that you can turn it off and on that easy with BimmerLink app.
