Resetting service messages in the car without using ISTA+ - Hidden menu for CBS reset
If you want to reset other service intervals/CBS jobs than inspections or tests required by law (they’re easy to edit over the menu “vehicle status”) you usually have to connect the car to the diagnosis system. E. g. for resetting the brake fluid service.
This is also recommended by BMW as it is only possible to code the statutory intervals specific to individual countries. So far so good. Reading through ISTA+ these days I’ve found a description how to do it in the car without connecting/using the diagnosis system. The instrument cluster is offering a hidden menu for CBS reset. Required conditions: - No Check Control message(s) - Availability of the service job is under 90 % (whatever that means exactly...) - Check that on-board date is correctly set How to: - Switch ignition on - Press trip distance recorder reset button for approx. 10 seconds until the 1st service job appears in the display. - Bring up the next item by briefly pressing the button again. - Select the desired service job. - (If possible...) the instrument cluster will display "Reset possible" - Start the reset process by pressing the button for approx. 3 seconds. - Confirm "Reset?" text message by pressing the button for approx. 3 seconds again. - ”Reset in progress" is indicated also showing a progress bar (xx%) - (If successful...) the reset is confirmed with the text message "Reset successful" I did so because BMW forgot to reset the brake fluid service interval while my car was in for service. And I really didn't want to bring the car back in only for doing that... |

FYI: I believe this is the same procedure that most of us have been using to reset oil change notifications on other BMW models...
