The Good. Queensrÿche at Cow Palace. They were touring for Empire and performed that, then did Operation Mindcrime, which was so cool. Great great show but we were up front right in front of the stage for the first half and I got crushed for so long I had to give up and drift back for Mindcrime. My hearing was numb for about 2 days after that show.

The Bad. Elastica at the Fillmore. They were touring for Elastica their first album.

The Disappointing. Van Halen with Hagar at Shoreline was blah uninspired unmemorable. They were touring for For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, with Alice in Chains.

Regrets. Bought tickets but missed Power Station. Had a work commitment the next morning and I just couldn't get out of it. I like Robert Palmer and was super bummed to miss that show.

Concert venues and shows you've attended

I have been most fortunate in that most of my concerts have been in Colorado. My favorite venue is Red Rocks, bar none! Here are a few of a show I attended back in June 2018. Big Head Todd and the Monsters with Collective Soul opening. The picture from the stage out (same show) was from BHTM's Facebook page at that time.

What are your favorite venues and what shows have you been to?

A question like this came up before in another thread, so instead of repeating myself I’ll post a link to my reply in that thread.

I just saw Big Head Todd with Blues Traveler a couple of weeks ago. Big Head Todd is one of my favorite bands and my wife and I have probably seen them 15 times between 1995 and now.

In the past few years, I've seen U2, Big Head Todd (3 times), Chris Stapleton, Gary Clark Junior, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Tool. The Tool concert is the best concert I've ever been too. The music, the sound, and the imagery were impressive and worth every penny. Sprint Center Kansas City has impressive acoustics as well, largely because it was designed for it. I really want to a concert at Red Rocks. My favorite places to see shows though are smaller, 500 or less type venues.

Never anywhere "cool" but we saw moe. one year at the Altamont Fairgrounds in NY and I don't know how I found out and nobody else did but it was probably 100 people tops?

Pretty killer show.

Bela Fleck at Pensacola Jazz fest & maybe Albany maybe Atlanta, don't remember
Ween in so many places
Grateful Dead (Sans Jerry but Pro Joan Osborne) at SPAC
Pearl Jam in Pensacola
Stone Temple Pilots in Daytona
Lords of Acid in Atlanta
KMFDM in Atlanta
MLTKK in Atlanta
Tori Amos in Atlanta
moe in VA, NY, and Athens
Phish at Hampton Coliseum
Gangstagrass in ATL x2

I have always wanted to see a concert at Red Rocks. I'm sure it was the U2 rain video I saw many, many years ago.

Also many years ago we got a CD at Camelot where I worked. No one had heard of the band, so it was given to me. It was Sister Sweetly. I took it home and wore it out before bringing it back and forcing everyone, every time I worked, to here it. Not a soul didn't love it, and I am responsible for at least hundreds of direct sales. I'm glad I could give a little back, it was so damn good.

My wife and I got to see them in 2013 in STL, such a fantastic atmosphere.

I've seen quite a few people/bands, here's a sampling of my favorites.

The Eyes/Pale Divine (several times. This guitar player in the first picture, Richard Fortus, plays for G&R now).

ZZ Top/Black Crowes
Robin Trower
Joe Satriani (several times)
Al Di Meola
Gruntruck
Lollapalooza 1993
Steve Vai (several times)
Tori Amos (several times)
Eric Johnson (several times)
Sarah McLachlan
Chris Duarte
RHCP/Foo Fighters
Kenny Wayne Sheperd
NIN
The Cure
The Fabulous Thunderbirds
Eric Gales
Sigur Ros (several times)
Ian Moore
Jimmy Vaughan
Dream Theatre (Images and words)

This is OT, but the cost for those shows was remarkably low by today's standards. This is a $3. 1968 Friday night ticket for a show headlined by Cream, with the James Cotton Blues Band and Blood Sweat and Tears on the bill: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1159577...e-cream-ticket.

One of my buddies had tickets to the U2 Red Rocks concert back in early June 1983. His girlfriend at the time didn’t want to go because of the horrible cold and rainy weather. He asked me. I knew very little of U2 and turned it down for the same reason. This is my concert faux pas and would be my ultimate redo. U2 is on my bucket list.

Well the Oakland Coliseum has never been a great concert venue, but the Bill Graham Day on the Greens in the 70's & early 80's were absolutely epic. I went to pretty much every one of them from 1976 to 1982.

As for the best venue, that would have to be the Big Sur Folk Festivals that my parents brought us to. The stage was usually on the side of the swimming pool at the edge of a pretty big cliff with the Pacific Ocean behind it.

I'd love to see Metallica. They're currently touring with Pantera. I'm a metal head at heart.

Oh man, that would have killed me. I'm not much on U2 these days, but back in the mid to late 80's they were one of my very favorites. Probably because their music was so much darker. Very poppy now.

I definitely agree. I love their early works maybe up until the later 80s as albums in whole. But there’s a lot of material I love through later years. There was an edginess those early years. The Red Rocks concert would have been my first one and what a bar that would have set. In all I’ve seen some great bands and solo shows.

Speaking of U2, I have seen them 5 times. Unfortunately, not at Red Rocks, (which is a bucket list for me), but among others I was at the 1987 show at ASU Sun Devil Stadium for the recording of the Rattle and Hum movie. Also at the LA Coloseum, and a place that no longer exists in Phoenix called Compton Terrace.

Santa Barbara County Bowl for Joe Walsh in '87 when he was so drunk he was even more hard to understand than usual, and Billy Strings in 2021. That's a great place to see a show. Also in Santa Barbara was Matt "guitar" Murphy, of Blues Brothers fame at a little place called La Casa de la Raza, which I was 10 feet away from him, and at a place called Oscar's for Stanley Jordan. I was under 21, and still got in. My buddy had to give the bouncer $20.

Pink Floyd in the LA Sports arena and in Phoenix at the old Phoenix Muni Stadium. In LA, I was the very last row, dead center on the aisle, and above the lasers and the smoke layer. That was super cool.

Over the years, many cool bands in many cool places. We're going to see REO Speedwagon in November at another cool venue, Humphrey's by the Bay in San Diego. A great place to see a show.

I've found that if we can see the older bands at smaller venues, it always is a great show.

I’ve got to get to Red Rocks…been dreaming of going to show there for ages. And just watched the Tredeschi Trucks band livestream a couple weeks ago. This thread will help me quit procrastinating.

We’re pretty spoiled with The Ryman here in Nashville…epic venue particularly if it’s your band/jam.

Some favs and recents:
Harry Connick (man that was a long time ago)
Cake
BMFS
Goose
Bobby with his wolf pack
