i4 US Leasing - Fed Tax Rebate
My question is about the $7500 federal tax rebate and leasing. When I've leased other EV cars, the $7500 has acted almost like an additional downpayment, so in effect if I put $5k out of pocket, the lease agreement shows $12500 cap cost reduction.
My question is that the i4 e40 preorder page shows $699/month, 36 months; $5,399 due at signing. All the terms are listed below, but makes no mention of the $7500 tax rebate. So wouldn't the actual lease at that MSRP be lower after considering the tax rebate? Monthly lease payments of $699 per month for 36 months is based on an adjusted capitalized cost of $54,445 (MSRP of $60,420, including destination and handling fee of $995, less $3,775 capitalized cost reduction, $0 security deposit and suggested dealer contribution of $1,700 and $500 Lease Credit). Actual MSRP and dealer contribution may vary and could affect your monthly lease payment. Cash due at signing includes $3,775 capitalized cost reduction (which includes $1,500 pre-order deposit), $699 first month's payment, $925 acquisition fee and $0 security deposit. |

It's up to the manufacturer to pass on the rebate to the consumer. BMW was offering a lease credit for about the same amount of the tax credit a few years ago on most of their PHEVs.
When I switched to a 2021 model the lease credit was down to $2000, so I financed with Owner's Choice and I'm getting full tax credit with terms similar to a 36 month lease. I doubt BMW will announce anything related to the tax rebate at least until congress finalize the new bill. |

I asked my rep at the dealership yesterday about the $7500 credit on a lease. He said it's only for financing the vehicle. Anybody else hearing this?

the new infrastructure bill puts limits on the price of a vehicle. the BMW i4 exceeds that limit currently. It would be wise for BMW to drop the price $500, remove an option that everyone will want and included on all cars. this will get it below the threshold. they would also have to change the M50 from a separate model to just a package you can add onto the base.
As long as they do something along these lines, things will be fine, but we haven't heard anything yet obviously. it's all speculation. |

The lunacy of this aspect of the infrastructure plan is the irony of how it will thwart the sales of the very vehicles they’re trying to push. Granted, many will still buy expensive BEV sedans, but there will be a finite number of buyers that were counting on the $7,500 and will now either drop out of the BEV market or buy a cheaper ICE vehicle. Nobody ever accused Congress of being overly bright. |

An example: Model S base Nov/Dec 2022 Model S Plaid Dec 2021 It's the same even for the TM3. Tesla doesn't like selling low end cars but they like putting them on the order sheet. I say the provision should say you must fill orders of the low cost models. Even if they add options that's okay, but you must deliver some number of your cars that meet the criteria for the credit to be collected.
