What the 4 series and M4 would have been with the proper grille.

If this looks good, I will be taking a serious look at it. Any thoughts on pricing? Thinking $80-$90k range, any more than that and I will look at the Taycan instead.

So much of what we see or hear is confusing.
The i4 was touted as the Tesla Model 3 competitor with pricing starting at $50K. Leaks of two models being offered at the launch i430 i440 will not have the 530HP we keep seeing in all these articles. Every article I read, seems to be talking 530HP. Again, making no sense. I can comprehend the i430 coming out at the $50K price point (less HP and less range), the i440 coming out in the mid $60K range with more HP and the 373 mile range, and a future model with the 530HP and prices north of $70K. The concept (which is supposedly at least 85% of what will be in the production car) certainly doesn't jibe with the pictures/videos we see in camo. Body lines look off to me. Hood lines don't match the concept. Interior shots in this video look pretty mundane too. Not sure how BMW calculates the 15% difference...but no full glass roof should account for a good percentage of the 15%.....unless they count the roof as 1%, the hood as 1%, the interior as 1% and so on. To my eye, the camo versions we see look like a completely different car than the concept. The concept IMO was stunning, but the rendered production version looks pretty clunky in comparison (IMO). The ICE 4 series looks much better to my eye than the rendered i4 and looks closer to the concept. I will reserve judgement until the actual car is released. But from what has been reported and what I have seen, I'm not having high hopes. |

Not sure on pricing but I would imagine that most models will likely fall between the equivalent 3 and 5-series for pricing? I don't expect it to be cheap though, that's for sure.

Anybody who thought the i4 would get a different hood line than the G22/G26 was delusional. Quote:

I have a 530e and I am in favor of electrification. I would be interested in one of the high end versions but not so long as they have the new Edsel grills.

Excited for this car, though not expecting to buy it. Hopefully it can show that bmw can make a proper full electric car that is desirable

I was expecting the i4 to have a bit more of a bespoke design, and built from the ground up as an electric car.
This looks like a new 4-series Grand Coupe with an electric drivetrain. Am I missing something?

Nope, that's pretty much what the i4 will be. BMW is betting big on shared ICE/EV platforms.

The ICE 4 series looks better to my eye than the rendered i4. The hood on the rendered i4 is pancake flat.
When they said you will get 85% of the concept, I expected it to look better than the 1974 Buick with a Edsel grille. If this is the product BMW presents I may just buy a 4 series 440 (or keep my low mileage M240i). Maybe wait and see what other EV's come to the market. IMO this is a huge disappointment. Again, I will "wait and see", as so much conjecture and false flags. Search BMW i4 MSRP and see the $50K number come up. |

I've been waiting for a full size BMW EV for far too long. I hope it has some form of autonomous driving aids, i.e. "Autopilot" like the Teslas. I also hope they don't try to price it like 80-90k b/c that is not going to compete with the Model 3 in any way. If BMW has learned anything from the i3, just b/c it has a BMW badge on it, doesn't mean its going to just fly off the showroom. The i3 was priced about 10k (before rebates) more than what most people would want to pay for a short range EV. If this one could go at least 300 miles and have respectable specs similar to a Model 3, then I would definitely consider it.
Hopefully they don't take the grille too far b/c the reception has been overwhelmingly negative and BMW should incorporate any redesigns now before they launch. Its clear not many are fans of the oversized grilles. C'mon BMW, make me want this. Make me want to blow money on your cars. Swallow your pride and listen to your fans. |
