I mean if they HAD to use some sort of signature sound, I guess it's not too bad. If it's artificial anyway (I didn't watch the whole video so I'm assuming it's all artificial) might as well go whole hog and use the sound of an NA V12. Or a MIDI file of a Nickelback song, I don't know, I'm not an engineer.

As someone who will gladly shit on the new design language of BMW, I’m ironically annoyed with all the complaining when it comes to this.

Stop arguing about whether or not an electric car should make a sound, it’s irrelevant. It’s now a law that they have to.

So, since we have to focus on the reality of the situation, what would you prefer the car sound like?

I myself would gladly prefer a sound composed by hans zimmer over whatever else the rest of the automotive industry is going to choose for their cars, assuming I have no options to select my own.

That said, I think Tesla’s approach to just allow you to upload your own sound is the best and most user-friendly moving forward. Want a TIE fighter? “Move bitch, get out the way!” Or the Jetsons? Go for it.

Perhaps I'm not understanding this correctly, but the video is referencing interior sounds not exterior sounds is it not? It would be strange (and lame) if your car was making some exotic futuristic racing sound creeping along at 6 mph in a parking lot.

This will probably be annoying to some people while others will appreciate more, maybe add the options to disable the sound on the inside and keep the saved profile. One of the most annoying thing about my i3s was the car not being able to remember what the last setting i used was until you coded it.

But this will also open up a whole new world of modifications gonna be exiting to see where we are going, yeah will probably suck a bit in the beginning without the sound from V8s and such, but people will adapt to that to, and then in a while it will be like "Cars used to make a lot of noise?" will be the standard question :-)

In all seriousness, I am glad they are putting effort into making the cars more emotional and give it character to differentiate it from other EVs. Hans Zimmer is an amazing composer so some good should come out of this.

However,, I now feel the need to head over to YouTube to watch ///M versions of the E46, E39, E60 and E90 acceleration videos to cherish those soundtracks.
