Future income tax is based on future taxable earnings the principal would generate.

For example - 400 Million earning interest in a money market account is taxed as interest income and reported on your 1040.

You can invest in nontaxable bonds that generate income tax free...

If you invest in properties that generate income at a profit - and based on your structure (LLC, S-Corp) - you are personally subject to taxes based on the profit (Net Income) and your tax will be based on your share of ownership.

NOTE: I am not a CPA, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night...
