Garage List
2024 BMW M2  [9.75]
2017 BMW X1  [10.00]
2001 BMW X5  [10.00]
Side note, the lighting was really rough.. odd color very dim overhead lights, LOTS of shadows, and blasting smoke filtered sunlight through the roll up doors.

The pics were the best I could do to salvage them at all.

The pictures are great quality, artistic, and well composed to my eyes. It is the subject matter that is the problem. 🤣

Glass controls are a hazard and should be illegal IMO. I can't tell you how many times I've been blinded by those controls in my wife's X5. They look slick but it's not a drivers finish. I know, I know . . . sell cars…

Hmm... What's up with the cup holder location? Is the iDrive controller on the armrest and then there's stuff beneath it?

soooo, this car is all electric, yes? so why, exactly, does it have gigantic radiator grills?
also, how much do we think one of those wheels weighs? asking for a friend who needs a new boat anchor…

Yes, iDrive controller etc. are level with the arm rest, then forward/below are the cup holders. They aren't nearly as difficult to access as they look. Also, that little slot in front of the iDrive controller is a phone holder with a mostly open bottom so you can keep your phone plugged in, but still upright.

It is all-electric. The "grille" is there for design, but behind that is at least the ACC array. I think they intend on being able to expand their use of sensors behind there with the intent that nothing is visible from the outside...but mainly it's for design, love it or hate it. It is fully closed though. The only opening in the front-end is the smaller area underneath the "grille."

I'm confident those wheels won't weigh a ton...that would be silly given the great lengths they went through with so many other aspects of the car to try to keep weight down, if they just gave up when it came to wheels and made ones that weighed 50lbs each...

Looks like they're unique to the iX. I haven't seen those seats in any other cars.

At the moment yes. The next 7-series will receive similar styling to the seats based off spy shots.

I don't know about illegal, but I've experienced that a couple times too. At least in Europe, it looks like the glass controls will be an option. You can see non-glass controls in some of the photos in the original press release. I'd think it'll be optional in the US too...easy to package it in with something like an Executive Package or just leave it as a stand-alone option.

From the Canadian configurator for the iX, they're part of a $850 package. I'd expect something similar in the US (maybe for $500 or $600).

Works for me.
I won't buy another BMW without glass control.

As long as you can watch a movie, sporting event, and tv show simultaneously on that thing I'm in.... Otherwise what's the point.

You prefer 3 separate screens like in the Audi Q7?

If the G05 X5's quality is anything to go by; including how long they have taken to iron out the issues in iDrive7, I wouldn't touch one of these things for at least 5 years. By that time the design will be re-done, and hopefully they have ironed out all the issues.

Please do wait. That means more iXs for the rest of us.

It's two screens...an instrument cluster that does instrument cluster things, and a central information display that does iDrive things. Not really different in practice from what other cars do, just laid out cleanly in one contiguous housing.
