I am thinking like this when it comes to those 20is it would probably be good enough for my needs but i rather have that extra range that the 19is gives.

And also i am coming from an i3s and going to an AWD electric 4 series will probably be plenty enough grip for my day to day driving even though the 20is are looking mighty fine.

But also i am looking forward to more reviews of the i4 further down the line where people drive it more realistic then what we have seen so far.

If nothing else it is nice being able to swap for custom tires in the future this has been one of those harder things to do with the i3s due it having such thin tires and "unusual" fitment.

What do you mean? Towhitch effects range if not used or if you will use it?

I love that it is a option as few times a year I need it and now (if i am ordering i4) don't need to lend parents car for those occasions.

It adds weight to the car and when in use it also effects aerodynamics of the car causing more drag with in combinations with the weight reduces range so when you press on the configuration it takes away about 6 km of range.

The car is heavy as it is and the tow hitch adds more to that weight it would be nice to be able to not have it. For me personally i have no need of it due to it being quite easy getting hold of a tow hitch equipped car for those few times when i need it other then that it just adds weight to the car that is not needed.

For me it is nice if it is an option but it shouldn't be mandatory due choosing a package on the car.

I wonder why the i4 M50 is not offered with smaller wheels to obtain better range? Brakes too large?
That what the eDrive40 is for.

Doesn't get easy configuring these things... I really need to order this week and thought I was all set, but now not 100% on:

1. Colour: San Remo green - not seen in the flesh, could just go metallic white and be safe
2. Wheels: Can't stand small wheels, but don't want to suffer a loss of 50 miles and love the look of the 20"s
3. Laser lights: Always had the best lights and love the Adaptive LED"s on my X3M but I can't seem to confirm whether the LED's have the same functionality or not?

I guess ordering now doesn't lock down the spec, so better off just ordering?

Get the 20's. On the first replacement get narrower tires. get a 265 instead of the 285 for the rear and maybe a 245 for the front.

It's the width of the tire not the diameter that causes the drop in range.

My understanding is that overcoming rolling resistance of a wider contact patch may be a factor, but the dominant factor for powertrain efficiency is rotating the weight of the larger, heavier wheel/tire assembly.

This same issue with the rotating mass also contributes to longer braking distances, although the differences can be quite small.

The mass also contributes to ride harshness (aside from the low profile tire) due to the increased suspension task of controlling essentially a heavier "vertical pendulum".

The engineers at my prior OEM employer used to say, "Design Office loves big wheels. Engineers don't." The Design Office guys would roll their eyes when they heard this.

If seeking 20's, try to find lightweight wheels and tires that are similar or lighter than the OEM 19s.

I've emailed my dealer today to swap down to the 19's. Thinking about maintenance washes, the 19's will be easier to get to the caliper 🤣
I can confirm the lights are indeed adaptive LED's as standard.

This is true. The mass will also matter.
A narrower tire will have a smaller contact patch and be lighter. it won't be as light as as a narrow 19" though, but if you like to look of 20's this gets you back at least some range.

Ordered my m50 the other day.

Went for the black interior with the blue stitching, the Dravit Grey and the 19" 859's.

After that, all I asked for was: EVERYTHING 😎😁

Attached is a pic of the setup.

Nice.

I plan to get the 20's with everything.
Did you get the leather dash?

The other difference is that if you order the 20" wheels, a rear wheel arch lip is added to accommodate the 285 section tyres. Not the case with the 19" wheels. I'm sticking with the 19" as they're fine for me. As mentioned, the unsprung mass is reduced.

Yeah, 20" are just a bit too much, at least for the tarmac in my city, which is sadly not top notch.

And yes, sprung for the leather dash as well.

Coming from an X3M Comp running 21”s and super stiff suspension, an i4 on 20”s would feel like a Rolls Royce to me. It’s just frustrating that the 20”s are a wider tyre as that would have improved range.

Having said that, given I know how much it costs for MP4S tyres on my X3M, 285’s on the i4 are going to be expensive! Maybe another reason for the 19”s as I think the i4 is going to destroy tyres with that weight and that torque.

The 20" are 255/35 and 285/30 so the side wall will be even less than your X3M's, but air suspension at the back will help; thankfully, the launch journo reports didn't seem to negative here.

Just Ordered!

Hi All,

Thanks to the salary sacrifice here in the UK I have just pulled the trigger on an i40 M50. It was through Tusker, and am just awaiting my confirmation to give me an idea of waiting time, but I#'m not holding my breath. I'll be surprised if it will be here earlier than March to be honest - but thats fine, my current car is out of lease in April, so should be alright until then, and if it comes earlier I'm able to hand it in early.

I've gone Sapphire Black, with Black Leather with blue accents. 19 inch wheels - really wanted the 20's but the hit on range was a bit too hard to swallow & Comfort pack only.

I do relatively little mileage, and had set myself a monthly limit, and to be honest - I really only wanted the H&K stereo, which is standard here.

I'm from Northern Ireland and the charging network up here is dreadful, so home charger is pretty much the only viable option which will be a pain, but things look better on the horizion, and with work, I only really travel to Dublin and Cork, so there are better facilities in ROI.

Looking forward to getting my teeth into all things electric, and getting on the road!

Cheers,

Gordie

Whatever happens I will be changing the tyres to Michelin’s as soon as I can, they are epic and unbeatable.

Maybe, maybe not. I recently got a set of USA made Michelin's and they needed more weight to balance than any other tire I've ever used.

Just put down my 1,500 deposit on the m50.

Quick question for those who have already specked out your cars - my CA was saying the order guides aren’t out even for the dealers. Where were you guys getting these?
