My dealership fixed the Drivetrain malfunction error on my 2019 i8 roadster. See below what they did, may be helpful:

«removed and installed». Does that mean that the original modules were reinstalled, or were they replaced?

I suppose it might not have been necessary to type in the serial numbers if the modules hadn’t been replaced with new ones, but if so, I wonder how they found out that the old ones were causing the problem(?) Interesting anyway. Thanks.

Sounds like they just reset and reseated everything? Wonder what the issue was?

Is it usual that they take a video of all their repairs and send it to BMW?

My guess would be it's complex, and they're stumped. I was under the impression a lot of stuff has to go back to head office / Germany, because these cars are so complex and rare that it's difficult to comprehensively train the technicians in every area. (Just my assumption for all of this - I could be wrong)
