"It's just a regular 4 series powered by an electric motor. And all the better for it".

Well said. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about iX.

i4 M50 in the 2nd year of production will be much more attractive enough to buy / lease - as 1st year production issues are resolved.

I can just imagine Clarkson's comments. Interesting that Chris Harris didn't weigh in on the saloon segment too; they must've known better than to ask him directly.

I'm in line and if it was completely new I'd be worried.

Interesting choice indeed but as with many other products the judgement of the car will be settled once the regular customer get their hands on it, saw that the first ones have been delivered at the welt so we should start seeing them arrive at the dealers soon enough. And when it comes to the reliability of it there is probably gonna be risks with that but as with any new cars good that there is warranty on the car. Remember my 235 when it arrived it was a completely new model at that time, had some minor issues but all appeared during warranty time so that was good.

But hopefully people haven't hyped them up to much on the car, after all i believe this will be a proper cruiser/dd machine maybe some track use but for track i would have something like the new M3 or the M2 and not because of the ICE engine but mostly because of the weight associated with the i4. I said it before they need to start reducing weight on these EVs otherwise you are gonna get diminishing returns no matter how large of a battery pack or cells you put in to it, if the weight keeps going up.

While you might prefer the look of a classic BMW, that the i4 tries to hold on to, it's really a massive waste of opportunity that it's just a ICE platform they are sharing.

Massive BMW bonnet, with no frunk - could at least have made a decent size room for cables etc.
Still gigantic transmission tunnel - in a car without a transmission.
No extra interior space because of the electrification gains.

I really looked forward to this car, when the first concept was shown, but it's a let down that it's just a BMW 4-GC with a electric drivetrain

BMW in recent years has increased their line-ups by recycling components wherever they can

From a business perspective its very smart strategy but as a consumer, you end-up getting parts bin cars

Car of the future...LOL

Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. A 4 series Gran Coupe (reasonably priced), swapped ICE for Battery with 99% the SAME design inside & out, now sells somewhere between $65k-$75k depending on how you option it, lol.

This is what we call MARKETING at its best targeted at the consumer mentality especially here at North America. It is essentially a 4 Series Gran Coupe with a battery and:

1. No substantive tech innovation whatsoever and the design remains nearly identical.

2. Its reported range is not impressive by any means (245-300 miles) and this is under IDEAL conditions which is almost never the case. You don't drive a BMW to save on gas or in this case on electric range. You drive it as a BMW and therefore any spirited driving will decrease this modest range even more. The charging infrastructure is not there yet, at least not when compared to Tesla.

3. The production car looks NOTHING like the concept version, not in design nor in functionality.

But lets give you a rectangular touch screen instead of an in-dash touch screen and charge you up to $75K and call it the car of the future, morons.

Having said that, the car will sell like hot cakes because of the sheep consumer mentality (i.e., I have to drive the new electric BMW).

EVs will be much more competitive in terms of price and technology by 2030. for the time being, I see this as nothing more than an unnecessary toy and no different than "hey, lets get the new iPhone!".

Some of us prefer the smoothness and instant torque response of an electric car. I don't think you can get a 4 series with +500HP for much less than $65K.

Range is not a problem for most people. You can drive 600 miles with two 15 minutes stops. You start every morning with a full charge, so for city driving you never have to think about range.

Agreed! - only comment is it's not quite 15 mins... I've done several 700 mile trips in my Tesla (FL to VA) and it takes a bit longer to charge than 30 min total time..and two stops.... it ranged between 60 and 180 minutes....lots of variables, such as SoC, charging stall rated speed...and if the charger is actually working - I've actually heard horror stories about EVgo, ElectrifyAmerica, etc. not working or not running at the stated speed.

You've obviously never driven a high end BEV. That's OK. If you did you would see the wisdom of the I4. My BEV will be my 4th after a Tesla MS, Jaguar I-Pace and my current Audi e-Tron. I would never go back to ICE and that has nothing whatever to do with the environment. The environmental issue is just a plus.

Blah blah blah. If you're not interested in EV why even bother leaving a comment? You also said we can buy a fully loaded 4 series Gran Coup for $55k. Can you send me your sales guy info?

Absolutely no rebuttal to what I stated earlier. Other than it can go from 0-60 in x amount of time, and instant torque.

Is there anything else? Oh, it drives "quiet", lol.

And for your information yes, I did drive an EV for sometime.

The truth is that this "i4" is an expensive car with no new technologies or innovations over its ICE brethren and can't make a convicting case of why one should spend $75K for it. You can convince your self otherwise but that is the truth.

You didn't offer anything of substance, no arguments and no points. Where do you live? In your parent's basement.
