Office Chairs

I sit behind a desk all day at work, and I've been realizing that my back's getting stiffer and more uncomfortable lately.

OT, what are some of the most comfortable office chairs out there? My budget is $500 on the high end, but ideally I'm looking to spend around 2-300.

If not chairs, what other creative ideas are you guys implementing for comfort and long-term spine degradation? I used to have a co-worker who stood up behind his high desk, so I guess this would be one option.

Thanks guys.

periodic breaks, with some spine stretching thrown in for good measure. Even just a walk around the office/block a couple times a day can make a world of difference

Personally I like the chairs with mesh material over leather with padding under. This keeps my ass and back from getting hot and sweating.

Costco sells three tiers of chairs. Businessman, manager, and executive. As a college student, I purchased the executive for $200, and made the best decision of my life. It's almost like a sofa with wheels on it, and I sit down and study about 8-10 hours daily. I can't study at the library anymore because I would rather come home to my chair.

a good chair is one thing. but I think like similar to what UncleWede was saying sitting position and taking short breaks is the key.

my lower back kills when I stretch it. dont let your back get to where i am now man. take care

This is pretty much the standard in our office. Very comfy, although the armrests pivot too easily for my liking. Still, I can sit in it for hours and don't develop back or butt aches.

The mesh is a must as well for me.

I just bought my first "expensive" office chair a week ago. I had been going through a new executive office depot chair every 2-3 years.

I REALLY like this new one. I was wondering why it was $650 more than the typical $200 office depot chair but once i've lived with it for a week i know why.

This one has all kinds of adjustments. And when you do adjust them it doesn't feel like it's going to break when doing it. The seat portion slides forward and backwards while also tilting up and down. The lumbar is adjustable, armrests adjust in height, angle, depth and width. The back reclines separate from the seat and each has a separate tension adjuster for fine tuning. Leaning all the way back feels awesome on my back too. It's super heavy and feels like it was built in a tank factory. I have it pretty much dialed in for me and it's super comfortable. My last chair i could feel pressure on certain points of my legs and now it feels like i'm floating when i'm in this chair.

It's from Raynor Contract - Nefil is the model.

^^ Is that picture taken on a ship? Those are great for your back because you can't hunch over like you can in a chair.

I have been using a Herman Miller chair (various kinds but mostly Aeron) for years and have one in each of my offices (4 states and home). Doesn't really fit your current budget by the time you add all the nice things to have, but it's what I recommend. Of course, having a designer for a good friend means I get them at "cost" and don't pay the price most do for them.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned RaceChairs yet, especially since they have an ergonomic line for better back support.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm thinking maybe I need to budget this a little higher from the options I see here. Or go the opposite way and try the ball first. Though I can def imagine that no one would take me seriously if I'm constantly bouncing up and down.

Any experience on these kneeling chairs?

The word budget was in the OP's post and it wasn't followed by a 4 to 5 digit number.

The kneeling chair is good because it offers different positions from traditional sitting to kneeling, to standing. The problem is the second two positions require alterations to your work station as well with regards to height.

I have experience with Herman Miller Aeron chairs from several of my clients. While the chair i got is comparable to the Aeron chair in price and design, i chose mine for 2 reasons. It feels like it's higher quality and it came in lime green.

+1 for the mesh.
Got a cheap Office Depot one for under $200. No complaints .
Your farts sound amazing through it!
That kneeling chair looks like something Steven hawking sits in.

I work for HNI, second largest office furniture manufacturer. I do like the #19 posted but that's old. HON Nucleus is the new greatest. Also take a look at Ignition mesh backs.

About $1500/chair but made for 24h use so very comfortable!
A bit out of your budget, but if you can convince your company to pay, who cares!

+1 Herman Miller Aeron. Bit pricey but worth it. I never skimp on mattresses or chairs, both things i use everyday.

This. Don't accept any substitutes. Often copied - never duplicated.

No I don't have shares in the company. They rock & your back will heart you
