drivetrain error

58.000 km
I am in the middle of nowhere. Have to do 1.700 km trip back home.
What do you think? Better to leave the car at nearest service partner or I can drive on my own risk

I would try to turn the vehicle off and lock doors for 15 minutes for full electronics “sleep”. Then attempt to drive again and see if the message reappears

If it is still persistent, it is likely best to have addressed ASAP not after a long trip where there could be major drivetrain failure putting you at danger on the Highway

I had this early on, could be a coolant fan failure for HV battery. BMW replaced it and no issues since at 18000 km.

Oh. Yeah, sounds like mine issue! How much time did you wait for the new parts to replace?

I also had this error sporadically (drivetrain warning with yellow wrench) at around 50,000km on my iX. I had a pre-existing service appointment to replace my roof, so drove another week or so (~1,000km) without any issue.

They replaced one of the water pumps the same day the vehicle arrived to clear that error.

Reading online, the water pump for the battery seems to be a common issue with early iX models. I would guess it shouldn’t be a problem for you unless you are planning to DC fast charge.

Good luck!

Ohhh. Sounds not good. I am stuck here, where I am. Nearest appointment for me is on the 12th of October (crazy). Never ever I will go to touristic cities without an appointment 🫠

These types of erroneous errors are fairly common on this vehicle. Personally, I would wait until it comes on after multiple vehicle starts before dropping it off at the dealership. They’re probably not going to find anything unless there’s a fault. Again, you can expect these random warnings, but it’s probably nothing to be worried about unless you see it happen repeatedly.

Seems like everyone gets this eventually. I got my first one on Sunday. Car drove fine for a few miles. Parked. Left it alone for an hour and came back and it was like nothing ever happened. I’m going to take it in later this week but it feels like some kind of sensor issue (like a scarier check engine light) rather than a real problem—for now.

As I said earlier in the thread, these types of erroneous warnings happen at random. Unless you get them in succession with several vehicle starts, it’s probably nothing to be too concerned with. We’ve all gotten them. The most common one is probably something related to the safety systems being disabled. This can happen with a dirty camera or sensor being blocked. Usually goes away at the next vehicle start.
