Anyone unsatisfied with range?

I’m not getting the 227 range on my I4 M50 which has 20 inch wheels and despite raising this with BMW they have become unreasonable and it does not appear we are going to come to terms. Anyone else dealing with BMW in this regard?

A few questions:
1) How do you know ?
2) Are we talking long trip mileage or short trip mileage ?
3) If long trip, what’s your cruise speed?
4) What’s your average miles / kWh efficiency on long trips?

I have had my M50 for almost a year. It has the 19s and I am seeing 300-325 miles in warm weather with gentle driving (non-Sport Boost). With the 20s and the same conditions, I would expect 250-300.

Not getting 300 with the 20s in real world conditions, but OP should definitely get 225 or more at this time of year. When they come back they will reference the gom.

Question for those who have responded thus far? Can you advise if you work for BMW?

I mean it is a performance car, with 20's on it, not sure what your range expectations are ... Also just a heads up you will eat tires far faster on an EV so be prepared for that on your next post.

1) your current config is the least efficient. While I think you should get more than 227 I don't think that's too far off.
2) driving style and where you are driving etc will have a big factor on your range. Stop and go takes a lot of energy on 20's and if you are accelerating hard and driving in sport etc
3) you have to drive a few weeks and get some averages before you really know what's going on. You likely notice that when you start from an 80% charge it says a number which is lower than you expect, but that number goes up and down during the first 20 miles or so. I would start averaging your efficiency data over time and see what you are getting, vs looking at the guess o meter.

I got the 20" option just like you, so I'm not disappointed. However, I do not get the 365km (227mi) EPA miles most of the time. During the summer, my range fluctuates based on driving (I drive in S some days, comfort, and Eco on other days). I charge to 80% at the most, but extrapolating based on the GOM, my range fluctuates between 280-400km (174-249mi).

On a positive note, if you switch out to narrower winter tires, the ~20% hit you took on range when you ordered 20" wheels should offset the cold weather hit, and you'll end up with the same range in winter!

I'm actually impressed with the range. At 80% charge I've seen as high as 270+ miles (on 19" wheels). Actually driven is another story, the I4 hasn't given me a reason to even check. What really puzzles me is when you change the max charge from 80% to something higher and your range goes up!

Another user asked you some questions earlier that you did not seem to answer. Most important answer you left out of your main post is how many miles you’re getting for a full charge.
Are you only talking about the your fully charged displayed range?

I have 20" wheels and I'm seeing anywhere from 2.6-2.9 mi/kW.

That puts me dead on for EPA. I don't drive like a granny. My car sees 75-80 on the freeway. I drive it exactly like I drove every other car I had.

So just came home from a two week vacation a bless those two weeks you get to rest from time to time when having your own business.
So we went a two week vacation with the car, loaded it up with the dog, our little dude and the wife ofcourse, cant forget the wife.
So the car is on the 19" Hankook Tires that comes with the car.

This first picture is start of the trip the car has been preconditioned while also being parked in a garage.

The second picture is after the first stop and charging to 96% witch yielded a maximum range of 454 km at 96% charge, heading of to the second stop, as you can see on the consumption it varies a lot from highway speed to B-Roads while also having lower average speeds.

The third picture is when arriving to our destination where we would be spending two weeks with a smaller road trip along the coast those pictures will be bellow in terms of consumption.

The fourth picture is the when car has charged to 100% so even though i didn't drive all to eco friendly through the trip it yielded a 518 km on 100% charge. Later in the evening

The Fifth,Sixth,Seventh,Eight picture is part of the small road trip along the coast here not a to far trip but just to see some of the nice pearls along the coast so the speed wasn't all too high and the. So we start at 100% and end up at 60% and you can follow the pictures on how the consumption changes throughout the trip.

The Ninth picture is on the way home from our vacation, also car gets preconditioned and off we go to our first stop to charge although not truly needed as we arrive with 70% witch is far more then enough for the last part of the trip to home. But our little dude and the dog needed a break so.

The Tenth picture is the last leg of the trip to home again we can see a clear difference what the weather can do to a trip.

The Eleventh picture is a picture from the other day when going from work to home i think it is a personal best in terms of consumption.

I usually drive around town by switching from Adaptive mode to One pedal driving B mode.

So before coming to a stop use B mode before driving off switch to A mode for less friction.

well I have an I4 40 Msport with lowered suspension and 20' wheels with narrow rear tires, I drive a mix of highway and city. City i tend to be softer with the accelerator but on the hwy i normally cruise at 80-85pmh.. my average is about 2.7miles per kwh and i'm getting about 220-250 miles. I did one long trip (400miles) at 80mph and got almost 270.. not sure how people here can get efficiency past 3.5m/kwh..must be driving really slow..i enjoy the car :-)

In my M50 on 19" Pirelli AS tires, the most range I got is 270 to no more than 280miles (but closer to 270) in the summer and so far in the winter (still in the 30's in December ... will get colder), my range dropped to 220 to 230.

In the summer, at 80% charge, there's no issue with range (no need to top off to get home) on my 170 mile round trip for work (once or twice per week)... BUT in the winter, I have had to increase the charge to 90% just to get me home with around 25 miles left. However keep in mind my average speed is above 70 even in cold weather. As it gets colder during the next 2 months, I will have to drop my average speed a bit to stretch the range.

My consumption for November is 2.9 Miles/Kw. BMW app says this is on part with the community average. I do tend to accelerate quickly, have short trips (average for the month was 13 minutes and I drove 221 miles in total). When I drive smooth and efficiently, I can get 220 or so on a 80% charge. 19" wheels, btw.
