Thanks for the additional background! I never knew any of this about Dack. My automotive interests also started with watercooled VWs, and I also owned a G60 Corrado about 20 years ago. I don't think it ever came up in my interactions with him, but I would've loved to talk to him about it.

I saw this news on the Bimmerpost FB Page today... very sad news! Dackel was such a nice and helpful guy! I still remember his care packages full of beef jerky, Monster BFC, small America Flags and other American stuff that you don't get on every corner in Germany... I still remember meeting him at Welt2.0 and Mobile Tradition.

RIP my friend.

A very sad day. A great loss to our community. The road calls us all and will be a lesser place without him.

Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to meet him, but his alp tours definetly inspired me to drive the alps the way I do now...

May he rest in peace.

In the words of the TS: “He was a genuine, generous good man”. A car enthousiast and a pure 1addict. David had also an addictive personality, in that once you met him, you would always be looking forward to meeting again. Unfortunately that’s no longer possible. Thanks buddy, for sharing you kindness, passion and wisdom.

He will be missed. Dack went out of his way on several occasions to lend a hand, even for the smallest of questions. He was truly one of a kind and was so knowledgeable.

From Another VW Club member of the past...

This is from Fred Schmidt:

So Sad About Dave
I first met Dave well over two decades ago at a VW Club meeting. We both shared an affinity for cars, specifically VW (at that time). I was struck by his welcoming and warm manner. He was like a big kid, always smiling and with some adventure to share. I remember the great fun we had with the rest of “the gang” at Summit Point. I always learned more about the art of driving FAST whenever I was with Dave. What a good and kind instructor. As a result of Dave being so enamored with the German car culture, it seemed that he moved to Germany to be at the center of it all. Good for him, not so much for us left here in the states. He was happy there and shared news via calls and “care packages”. As time passed I didn’t make as much effort to stay in touch with him, yet I thought about him frequently. What a loss to us all who’s lives he touched.
My sincerest condolences to his family.
Fred Schmidt

Revisited one of Dackelone's favorites in the Dolomites: the 'Passo Giau' in the evening hours. All's quiet. Hi, David.

PSo sorry to hear of this. I did not know him personally, but have read/viewed most of his material on this site. A major contributor to this site, and seemed to be a very informed and enthusiastic fellow. He will be missed.
