I just looked at the last 5 new Ferrari's I had and what loss or gain when I sold them and how long I had the car. F360 Spider Loss $30,000, 9 months 575M Loss $55,000, 3 years 458 Sold MSRP 3 years 458 Sold MSRP 1 year FF Loss $120,000 2 and half years. Nearly 9 years of Ferrari motoring in new cars for an average depreciation of about $23,000 a year. bacon saved with the 458's. In the same time period with same money outlay I could have gotten pre Enzo cars which in every case doubled or even trebled in value. Personally I know 3 other F car owners who are getting off the new F car merry go round. Ominous trends for European and US F car dealers. (?) Anyone know of a 330/365 GTC for decent money ? (LOL) |

Thanks, and that is pretty quick delivery. I guess it pays to have got orders in before the launch
I too will be selling my Ferrari btw I anticipate the i8 will depreciate slowly initially (scarcity), and then fairly quickly (improved BMW and competitor cars of the same type). I could be wrong of course |

I've never heard of another BMW that attracted so many F car guys. A dealer on another forum posted a photo of a 458 that someone also traded in on an i8 order. It's crazy. And awesome. Definitely a new set of customers.
I still want an F car one day, but not willing to get rid of my BMW(s) for one. Maybe I will buy Arrezo's FF from his dealer when it is discounted another $100k in 2 more years? (I guess used is the way to go with that car). For the record it is my favorite F car, too, man. I will probably get the poor man's FF sooner, which came some 10 or so years before it - the 1999-2002 E36/8 BMW M Coupe. The shape is very similar. That's where the similarities end. That average depreciation is amazing though, with the help of the 458s. My X6M has depreciated more than that in 1.5 years. Don't even get me started on the MB GL550 I bought for the future ex wife. That thing sank like a rock within months, as the new body style came out. But leveled out since it's only a $90k vehicle. Glad it's a lease! On the i8 depreciation, yes there will be competition, maybe not for a few years; however I find it hard to see the overall package, especially the design/look, being in the same league as the i8. And the revolution in CFRP production process and it being the first hybrid sports far from BMW (or anyone, for that matter, when excluding the 3 hybrid hypercars) will always be part of the i8 legacy. For example, the M Coupe I mentioned, was around $45-$50k new and today, 10+ years later, prime examples with the S54 motor from the E46 M3 still run for $35-$45k. There was only one generation and the production was limited, only 670 of the S54 motor cars were sold in North America. The Z8 took a dip for a short while, then picked back up. I feel the same thing will happen with the i8. It will eventually stabilize and become a collector car. I also do not believe there will be a second generation of i8. When regular BMW series vehicles ride on CFRP/aluminum chassis due to the process developed for BMWi, the i8 will remain the genesis of a whole generation of lighter BMWs. I think over time this will help stabilize values pretty close to MSRP. I could be wrong, also, of course... |

Status for my i8 is 155 from 27. of July. I was told by my dealer that my car has left the factory for delivery, but has been recalled to fix some problems. No one by BMWi can tell me why and the date for delivery. My dealer guess that there may still be some problems to fix and that no serie car has been released yet. Demonstration cars already in circulation seem to be pre-serie cars, build last year. Have you guys more info about this ?

Could be anything. I know it's not unusual for updates to happen even between shipping and arrival at the dealership. In the US, there are currently two "holds" in the system for i8s. One that they can't be released before Pebble Beach and the other is that they're waiting for emissions approval. I know my SLS was held at the port for an extra day to flash the ECU and transmission software before being released to a dealer. A friend ordered a new E63 and they held it for two days to add a new trim piece that was part of a rolling update. It could also be something as simple as a typo that needs fixing in the documentation. I wouldn't worry about it until I knew it was going to make an impact on delivery.

Mine has now completed production and is awaiting carrier (status 180?). I looked ahead at the shipping schedules for Wallenius and Wilhelmsen, the shipping company that handles most of the BMW shipments, and see that there is a ship leaving Bremerhaven on August 23 arriving at Port Hueneme (California port of entry) September 19, so with any luck I should be seeing the car before the end of September.
Still waiting to see if my dealer can find a car to swap in order to get the Tera World, but at this point I'm not counting on it. I know I'll be thrilled with either PI or Tera, so am now just excited to be getting the car in the not too distant future. |

It seems that Bmw recalls all commercial i8 as i already post. I learned today that they are developping new tires to reduce the observed understeering with the test vehicles. The new tires, produced by Bridgestone will be softer and with a new shape.

I was supposed to have the second car delivered in Southern California (and the first at Bob Smith BMW) but was told the Pure World cars are the first batch. Since I dislike that "world" and grey seats I've said I'll wait. Any idea on when the next batch are coming? I don't have a production number yet obviously.
