Aux Heater - needed?
Hi Everyone,
I'm just about to take the plunge on ordering an i3S and BMW offer an aux heater as an option. Do I need this to warm the car up after a cold night while it's plugged in? Or can the normal heaters do that? I'm trying to work out if it's worth the £550 option cost. |

Background - Currently driving my 3rd i3 (2 in the Garage currently) but not as deep into the guts as my other cars.
I have noticed that heating the car can suck a significant amount of range of not preconditioned. I also know Nissan had this issue on the 2011 and 2012 Leafs. 2013+ Leafs have a heat pump standard. As to your question of needed... for $150 option not sure why it’s just not included as Nissan did. I will be ordering i3 #4 soon and will tick the box on the heat pump for $150 option on a $50000 car. |

I'd say it depends on where you live. If you go through a large chunk of the year under 40'F / 4.4C i would, your battery will take a hit when you turn the heat on. I would also take into consideration where and how far your typical drive is.
