I actually worry more about the heat than humidity. Heat ruins wine and actually corks can dry out in low humidity. Not really much of an issue if buying and drinking or storing for only a short period. But if storing for a few years, it is best to keep temp below 70 degrees and temp / humidity as stable as possible.

I try to order direct from wineries and have deliveries in cooler months, but you can’t do that with everything. I have also ordered online from Benchmark Wine and to a much lesser degree, Wine.com. Also shop locally at Costco and Total Wine but I also worry about their storage for other than fast selling wines.
You are much more serious than I am for wine. I do not store wine longer than 6 months.

Not sure about anything that tastes like Caymus - and it definitely varies by vintage. But another pretty good wine in the Artemis / Caymus price range is Joseph Phelps.
Thank you! I've seen the Phelps but haven't tried it. I will now.

I had this idea too, but my wife wanted nothing to do with it lol.

same here usually stick with Cab but from time to time will venture off into different reds. All Napa stuff is generally awesome but i equally like wines from Santa Ynez Valley; great selection and for most part better priced than Napa.

I almost have a completed custom cellar, it was an afterthought idea to prevent wasting space under the stair case. Still need to get a commercial cooling coil and racks from vintageview then its all done.. should hold about 250 bottles, when the time comes looks like I'll be going to Trader Joe's for two-buck chuck to fill it up, lol!

A favorite of mine for years has been Anderson Conn Valley. A great cab and Pinot but I have to order direct as they are almost impossible to find in stores. Love Chilean wines as well, a great value for sure. Still learning Italian wines but love the big wines from Tuscany.

As for whites, I do drink them, usually in the summer when it's hot as heck down here. Tend to like sauvignon blancs over chardonnays...

I do have a fridge that hold more than 100 bottles where I keep the better bottles for the long term. Have a number '90 Bordeaux's in there and great old CA cabs like Diamond Creek, Heitz Cellars, one is a '74 Marta's Vineyard which I need to drink soon.

I'm a bit biased when it comes to Caymus because I've worked there 10 years now. Love both cabs but one of my favorites is our Red Schooner malbec. The grapes are transported from Argentina and the wine is amazing! FWIW, I'm not on the winemaking side of things .

As far as Pinot, Belle Glos hands down is my favorite and can't recommend them enough. If you're unsure on what blend to start with "Dairyman" would be my recommendation. If you come across an old bottle of "Taylor Lane" you've hit the jackpot.

I've heard MKSixer talk about the Red Schooner Malbec but have never seen it. I going to have to look for it.

Primarily drink sub $30 wines from Costco - mix of California Cab/Merlot/Zin, Bordeaux, Spanish Rioja or Riberas, South American Malbec and the occasional Sancerre or Rose.

Store about a case of really good 1st growth Bordeauxs (Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite, Margaux, etc) and some pinot/cabs (Heitz, Dunn, O'Shaughnessy, Montelena, Duckhorn, Siduri, Frog's Leap, Colgin, Joseph Phelps) we pick up in Napa and Sonoma when we go up there a couple of times a year. Use cellar tracker app for inventory and to view ratings/tasting notes.

Storage is an older Eurocave Comfort 101 equivalent wine fridge (I forget the actual model since its 8 years or so old).

Tools are just the basics - a (free!) waiter style opener from Joseph Phelps, foil cutter, and an ah-so for older corks. Wine glass writer pens for marking wine glasses (easier than charms). Serve in Reidel decanters and glasses.

Great thread! I am a red guy 100%, the bolder the better. Cabs and Syrah top my list. These are my go to wines. There are 3 from the Niner winery in the Paso Robles area, which also has a beautiful tasting room if you get a chance to go. The Pride Mountain is a special occasion wine for us, and is absolutely scrumptious. Run it through a strainer. And who doesn't like Stag's Leap?

Others that I enjoy are Educated Guess, Daou, Donati Family Vineyards, and Alexander Valley.

It was literally a revelation to my palate when I first experienced it. I'm taking 2 bottles to a party tomorrow.

I encourage anyone who enjoys reds to add it to their list.

Just ordered a Red Schooner 5 Malbec and a Phelps Cab with some daily bottles for the party this weekend.

I saw some sites carry 7 Malbec. What does the number mean?

I have tried probably 4-5 Malbec in the past and did not like any of them.

Correcting myself. Wine posts around here costing me $600 thus far.

I read today that the Schooner doesn’t have a vintage. The voyage 7 is the equivalent of a 2017. So the 5 would be a previous years. I guess.

Great thead!

I quite enjoy wine, and started my journey around age six when I began the hobby of wine making with my father and grandfather. Over the many many years of tasting and learning, Ive developed a certain palate and like what I like, and its good wine that I like!!!
What that means Ill leave to you but wine is a passion and I acknowledge that upfront!

So I have a 48bottle dual zone cooler for my collection/higher end bottles and store the table wines in a dark cool basement.

I enjoy Italian wines alot, both reds and whites. Chianti, Barolo, Brunello, Vino Noble, Montelpuciano di Abruzzo, Tuscano, Nero d’avolo, Orveto, and Insolia to name a few off the top of my head 😁 so many brands to list, just need to find your price point and enjoy!!

French wines I enjoy with friends but dont collect, though a Pommard would be my choice if not for the one and only....gasp..California wines (j/k youre good californians!!)

California, Sonoma in particular, has won my heart, (and my wallet!!!!!!)

While I dont mind Cabs at all, whether Stags Leap, or Turley or Caymus, I can enjoy them all night long, it would not be my first or second choice.
In second place, would be a lovely Zinfandel. Turley would be a lovely choice and has some great offerings if you can find them. My go to vineyard also make an exquisite Zin and I always get a few bottles when I order.
Which leads us to the hands down best wine, to my palate, from the arguably finest producer of such wines, in the world.
The one and only Pinot Noir grape (yes i know there are many many types just kiddn)
And from the one and only, Williams Selyem.

There is No other once you experience their offerings, from light to med to full bodied, all unfiltered small batches from arguable the best place in the world to grow the Pinot, in Sonoma by the Russian River Valley. Truly a life changing experience in many ways! I found them thru a somilier recommendation and it was the best advice on wine i ever got.

So, if youre interested, there are a few ways u can find their offerings. They do not sell retail so your local store wont legally carry them.....Firstly, high end restaurants with extensive cellars often carry them. Recently, Total wines has made some deal to carry a few bottles in select stores.
Their primary distribution is direct to their list customers. I joined about 20 years ago, it takes a year to establish and then you can start purchasing against your defined allocation which is initially low so you need to build it up through consistant purchases of your full allocation in the 2 annual releases(spring and fall and different types for each) and to stay on the list you just need to buy one bottle per year.

To read up, check out their reviews on WE, they are always 90+, often 94-95 and high as 98-99s, truly special wine, imo.

They also make amazing Zinfandel and Chardonnay, and in the summer they make an amazing Vin Gris di Pinot Noir, but its all about the sonoma and russian river valley Pinot Noirs.

I need a drink now!!!!! 🍷🍷

Curious about the Williams Selyem wines... what is a ballpark price per bottle through the list?

The number is the vintage order of bottling. Voyage 1 is the first bottling.
