Now, go back and stay there!
Nope, i can see legos anywhere. Went to the hippie commune, place is creepy. Spent most of the time in Old Copenhagen. Took a trip around the Sound. Up to Helsingor, ferry to Helsingborg, train to Malmo then back over to Copenhagen.

Love the culture there, everyone is so chill and laid back. It's like the white caribbean. People keep to themselves and don't bother you. But if you engage one of them, it's like they are you're long lost pal. Taxes are another story. We kept receipts of what we bought and got our 20% sales tax back at the airport. When we'd pay 450kr for dinner, frigging 90kr of that is taxes!! Seems crazy when you live with 7% sales tax. But, i'd be ok with a huge sales tax and lower income tax. Though seems that the Danes don't get that deal either. Got to keep the queen and royal family living in the lap of luxury. I found out that the Queen alone gets something like $55,000,000 USD a year for turning oxygen into carbon dioxide. And some how, they've convinced the hard working, (lol) Danes this is a good thing!

Anyway, back to Irma.

My aunt was Irma (her actual first name). If Florida is getting off easy, they'll only have a hurricane to face, Irma i knew was far more deadly.

Good luck to you all, please keep us posted.

"THE" weather channel (part of the media) exaggerates all weather activity. Even without news readers, you can see it in their graphics compared to other weather sources. It's sicking. You should see the fear it scares up in people around here who depend on mainstream media for weather reporting. I see people who can scarcely afford it buying things they don't need because the local weather media has made a typical afternoon thunderstorm into the apocalypse. That's sad.

That said, there is no reason to take any category of Hurricane lightly. But listening to the media is the last thing i'll ever do when deciding what my reaction and preparedness level is going to be in regards to such a storm. I've been in FL for 40 years and through a few bad storms. The storm reporting has gone ape shit over the last few years. Every spring we get a prediction of how many named storms will make landfall in FL. You know who sponsors those predictions? Insurance companies. You know how accurate they have been over the last 20 years? About 5% accurate. In 2004 we had 4 hurricanes roll across the state one after another over 5 weeks. All relatively small storms but they did enough damage so that when the next years prediction of 11 named storms making landfall in FL really motivated people to spend some insurance money. (one of my childhood friends owns an insurance brokerage) I think all of maybe 1 or 2 storms hit, certainly nothing of great consequence. And the same held true for several years.
I had a really good laugh when a couple years ago "The Weather Channel" starting naming winter-time Low pressure systems that raced across the northern parts of USA.

I was like WTF?!...you guys are naming Low's associated with cold fronts....in the winter....that come across the US every 8-10 days.

All the stations now report how many millions of Americans are in the path of xyz weather disaster. Like it wouldn't matter if only half as many people were.

I just heard the Maho resort in St Martin my wife and I stayed at last march complete destroyed. There are reports of some of the hotel employees missing.

Our thought are with everyone who's in the path of this storm. Stay safe.

I'm in Palm Beach County and I'm leaving for Ocala in the am. I was able to get a room for a couple nights, however I'm contemplating on wether or not I should take my 1 or not. This afternoon it shifted east slightly. It'll be stored in a 2 car garage while I'm in Ocala, but don't know if I should take my car or not. What should I do?

While a car never takes priority over life, if you can move it, move it. The impact from winds will be tough but if the home is built to modern storm code it has a good chance of survival. The wild card is the storm surge. If you can drive the car to Ocala, drive it.

Having done these evacuations multiple times, it will takes hours to move miles. If you don't have a full tank, finding a station with gas on the drive could be a challenge.

Before I left work my job announced that we'll be closed tomorrow and Friday. A four day weekend of concern, however, we are prepared. Kites and hand held antennas are all ready.

Man, shit got real in the islands. Tomorrow's news may be very bad. Hope it's not as bad as some folks are reporting. And Jose looks to bring them another hit in a few days.

Yep famous Maho landing strip...

My uncle/aunt/cousins lived @ Sint Maarten but not anymore. Been there once.

Dutch government is rather negative about the results of the storm....

Stay safe there.

I live in Orlando, FL but I'll be in Japan another week. I avoid airport parking after getting a vicious door ding years ago. When I left hurricanes weren't on my mind and thought the 235 would be more secure at my house and parked my old beater in my parking garage at work and caught a ride to the airport. Now the 235 is sitting under a rather flimsy portable carport from Costco next to my house. A friend is going by to remove the walls of the carport and try securing the legs into the ground with earth anchors. It's a dilemma to keep the roof of the carport to protect the car from falling debris or leave it to act as a sail and help the frame of the carport bang into the sides of the car.

I'm thinking about calling a locksmith to open the door of my house so he can move my car to a more protected location. However, not even sure if a locksmith would do that if I'm not there and can't remember where my backup car keys are located.

I live on my 50 foot sailboat in the Manatee river off the Tampa Bay. Unfortunately for the rest of the state it is good news for me if it keeps tracking east. I have tied down the mizzensail and mainsail. Today the genoa comes down. The bimini top and frame are down and lashed. The booms are both lashed. Everything is off the deck. Sending my wife and daughter to my parents house inland with the bmw while I hang back with the truck. My plan is to make any last minute adjustments needed then get the hell out of dodge after I can confirm my home (boat) is safe.

St Martin is pretty much destroyed. St Thomas, early accounts, lost their hospital. All the green is gone. Stripped every last leaf. Boats stacked on top of each other on St Martin.
