Also, just not a fan of the two screens. Why no traditional dashboard plus an infotainment screen? All just looks very DYI.
Climate control on the screen would get annoying. Why no physical buttons? In general, this is my gripe with EVs. Can't we just keep everything we've enjoyed in our traditional vehicles and simply slap some batteries in there? |

I'm down with the design for electric vehicles and would get one in white if my bank account had more zeros. Congrats to all those who are getting one!

Fine, slap a cheap screen where my dashboard used to be but at least leave me the climate controls buttons so I can easily turn on/off seat heating, adjust A/C in a single touch without fiddling with the Samsung Galaxy etc. |

Someone said they got rid of the typical shortcut buttons on the i4 dash?

The tanzanite looks great in certain viewing angles. But in real life it rarely looks like the website pictures. Sometimes it looks more like the Monaco E92 335i I used to own. Especially if it is just a little dirty. It looks like it will show a lot of surface scratches and swirl marks. It was a tough decision, but I just changed my order from Tanzanite to Portamao. Portamao just seems to look consistently good in the sunlight, shade, or night.

I don't feel girly when I drive it. But then a Back Street Boys song pops on the radio…

I owned possibly the worst offender in history in terms of "button overload". An '07 Acura MDX: Owned it for 6 years, in the prime of my tech capable life. Still thought it had too many buttons. Now I own a 958 generation Cayenne. Have owned it for 8 and a half years. It's only the second most button-festooned car I have owned, which is saying something. I mean, it's enough to make a button manufacturer swoon! Still drive the Cayenne weekly, but my daily is a Model 3. We all know how many buttons that has. You know how often I miss physical HVAC controls? Pretty much never. Half the time I go to hit the recric button in the Cayenne and I can't find it. Because it's surrounded by similarly colored, similarly sized buttons. Seriously it takes my eyes off the road just as much and for just as long as the Tesla. As long as you can turn the temp up and down on the main screen, and have the heated / cooled seats only one layer deep. It's fine. Really. |

There is a middle ground between two opposing design languages: "buttons which control other buttons" vs "at least three fingers must be used to operate touch slider control".
The middle ground is the balance between safety and usability. Can controls be designed to better use muscle memory to help the driver maintain focus on the road ahead? Which controls should be implemented as buttons and touch sliders? Absolutes in this department lead to little value. |
