30 amp RV outlet Charging

For the VERY LIMITED number of folks who may wish to charge this way, I have confirmed that this TT-30 to 14-50 adapter does work with the stock BMW iX charger. I'm charging as I type at 20 amps but it should work up to 24 amps. AGAIN, this is only for the very few people who happen to have a 30 amp outlet at home or if you're visiting a campground. It's more than twice the speed of the stock charger on 120v so for a few of us its a big help!

Another use case is if you happen to find yourself in a power failure and are running a generator that has that kind of receptacle. Having it be able to charge at nearly 2.9 kW is not fast but will do in a pinch and is indeed twice as fast as a regular plug.

We had a power outage last week for a couple of days and i thought about getting an adapter to go on my generator but I wasn't sure it would work and I didn't want to set it up in the front of the house. Good to know it would work if ever i did need it.

Can you link to which one you specifically bought?

Can you share how the adapter is wired? The TT-30 has three wires. A ground, a neutral, and a hot. The 14-50 has two hot and a ground plus the neutral wire which isn't used by EVSEs. So I'm curious how you're getting 20A from the single hot wire on the TT-30 unless the EVSE is ignoring the missing hot lead? Is the adapter mapping the neutral (W) to one of the hot sides of the 14-50 (X or Y)?

Generally they wire L2 to neutral if it’s a 120v system. Even when you hard wire EVSEs they label the two hots L1 and L2/N.

The RV plugs are generally 120V 30A fed with 10 gauge wire or similar and if you draw 24A that’s the 2.88kw.

FROM THE SELLER:
If you use an RV adapter to connect to juicebox it will not work. This Parkworld 885378 TT-30P to 14-50R adapter is intended for electric car charging and therefore does not have a neutral connection. When you charge your EV using this adapter please make sure to follow the 80% rule and manually set your EV charging limit to 24 Amps. Thanks, see less
By Parkworld Seller on March 24, 2023

note: I can confirm that a "standard" RV use adapter does NOT work. It would not power up the BMW or JuiceBox. I haven't yet confirmed the JuiceBox will work with this new adapter but I expect it to.
