Kris - I copied this thread into the Off Topic discussionarea to open it up beyond Australia. BTW, I do store some vino in the basement - nothing of great value though. Mostly red, a case or two of Shiraz and a whole bunch of Cote du Rhone.

Cheers - another vino lover here. Mainly Bordeaux and Bordeaux-style wines. Some Burgundy and some Rhones, as well.

Avid collector of vintage American electric solid-body and thinline electrics and a few acoustics, too.

Oh, and cars.

I love a good Connecticut wrapper on a nice Robusto when it's nice out. I like to keep about a hundred stogies stored for the warmer months in a humidor I made.

Deck, check. Stogie, check. 2 Olive Goose martini, check. Roundel (or a decent book), check.... Bliss!

No dramas More the merrier - I'm sure this thread will get lengthy in size! Hello fellow American/Canadians

I'm an audio lover. I've just moved away from CD into FLAC and store all this music now on a NAS. I'm auditioning a Linn Akurate DS next week as a source - should be fun!

Not many folks know of Linn - great stuff. I'm still hanging on to my old Rega Planar turntable...

Colonel1961: I know, just getting an audition wasn't easy! Can't just roll up and take a listen. It's almost like secret business

Woah, nice tube gear - I don't recognise any of it lol!

15 year-old VTL with vintage & matched NOS, Siemens, Telefunken & Mullard vacuum tubes. The tubes alone are difficult to find, plus, when you do find em' they aren't being given away. Hoy! The currently-produced, relatively inexpensive, Eastern-block tubes, however, sound horrible, thick, slow, gray, soft and confused. Ick.

The RTR's are 30 year-old Teacs, a 1/4 track for everyday use plus a 1/2 track for the occasional audiophile 'fix', both tape-recorders are refurbished and sound terrific. A Nakamichi cassette recorder plus a new Marantz CD player complete the 'collection'. The McIntosh MC 2105 power amp is mint w/all original paperwork, the thing sounds wonderful, at least for SS, very tube-like.

The turntables are a Project Perspective with custom c'weight, the other turntable is a total hot-rod, AR ES-1 plinth, RB-300 arm w/Incognito wires, Thorens platter, custom c'weight & height shims. Both tables run Monster alpha Genesis 1000 carts, each cart has less than 100 hrs. per. My 'stereo' sounds awesome. I really enjoy it.

Everything is juiced through a Monster Power, Signature HTPS 7000, power conditioner. Power conditioners are essential for truly high-end sound, you'd be surprised how much improvement can be had by feeding your gear clean power.

Glass of wine for me. I'm partial to Merlot and my wife is a Reisling fan even though I find that a bit sweet it is still pretty good.

I would prefer to say it looks well used or broken in.

My wife and I have taken wine tasting courses, years ago. I used to have a stock, similar to Hugo's downstairs as well. We just semi-lost interest in that hobby.

However, my brother-in-law is opening a new store called "Bin Ends" (with the motto Serious Wines/Serious Savings), not too far from here. He was an international wine broker, and decided to open shop for himself. for those unfamiliar with the term, Bin Ends are bottles left over from cases, usually high-end, that are known to sit unpurchased.

Since my brother-in-law knows these importers and producers that have these potential bin ends, he buys them for small dollars and resells them in his store.

I can't wait to have him make up a few cases for me...

It certainly was sparse at the time. I had just moved in a couple of days prior. Filled up now though.

As long as you have wine it doesn't matter what you store it in.

BTW, noticed you were from Indep. MO. I was born and raised there. Graduated from Chrisman H.S.
