Well the Iphone 4S looks solid, I mean 1080P recording capabilities, an 8MP camera, new dual core chip, and some sort of antenna switching device for better calling quality. In addition, they say the speeds will be close to HSDPA but it wont be a true 4G phone - I have no idea wtf that means; sounds like a lie to me.

All I know is that ATT service sucks major ass where I live and as someone else already pointed out; who is to say there won't be an Iphone 5 in the summer?

Have been following the live blog since 10am.

Excited to see the improvements of the 4S yet still disappointed that there is no 'iPhone 5'.

Does any phone manufacturer in the US offer true 4G on any phone? Verizon sure as hell markets it but when I called out one of their customer reps on the issue; they said it's a fourth generation headset and that's why they call it that but it has nothing to do with 4G speeds lol. What bullshit they sell to people is hilarious...

BTW, where can u buy that unicorn meat?

verizon and sprint are currently the only carriers with true 4G phones, of which verizon is 4G in it's intended form (LTE). sprint offers wimax, which is shoddy at best. sprint will be converting to LTE at some point.

speed. HSPA+ is faster than HSDPA, but is nowhere near 4G.

if you have an iPhone, not really worth to upgrade

from my old-ass iPhone 3G, however, it's a massive upgrade i'll probably get it

i would be looking at a Windows Phone right now if it wasn't for my music library being all organized in itunes. :/

HSPA+ is an evolution to the HSPA family

HSDPA is a protocol within the HSPA/HSPA+ family specifying specifically the downstream links.

Not bad. Better than the 3GS improvement a few years ago. There are some nice little improvements, although I was really hoping for better battery life and a bigger screen. I like the voice control- something long overdue. I'm not sure how it'll work with my Outlook calendar at work or hotmail private acount though. It probably won't.

So, whatever happend with that elongated home button?

No change at all for the iPod touch!

I'll get my first smart phone soon and was holding out for the iPhone5. What else should I check out?

I wouldn't suggest SGSII. I don't know what took so frickin long to release it here in the States, but that's definitely nowhere near a new phone. The Prime will be much better, if for no other reason than ICS and updates on the fast track. It's also supposed to "feel" more like an HTC than a Samsung, meaning more metal and a sturdier feel.

Don't get me wrong, the SGSII is a great phone, but the wait for the Prime should only be until some time in November, and its rumored specs pretty much dominate the SGSII. Plus, the worst thing about Samsung phones is that the manufacturer is Samsung, but the Nexus moniker bypasses most of the shit that makes them so intolerable.

"It's been 16 months and all you've got is an A5 processor in the existing iPhone 4," said BGC Partners' analyst Colin Gillis.

HSPA+ is not the base for a 4G protocol, however in theory it should be as fast as base LTE. I haven't seen that personally. AT&T is rolling out LTE, and has already in five cities, but I'm thinking the T-Mobile deal falling through is going to be a huge hindrance, as they needed the freqs that T-Mobile owns. Right now, Verizon is way ahead in the freqs they've secured, so unless some moves are made, AT&T won't have near the LTE coverage Verizon does. However, AT&T's fallback protocol is much better than Verizon's, meaning if you're not in an area where you can get either carrier on LTE, you'll be better off falling back to HSPA+ than you would on CDMA.

Basically, LTE and HSPA+ both as they exist right now are not anywhere near 4G speeds, and most practical tests (read: not theoretical capabilities, but real application) I've seen have shown LTE to be far faster. I believe they were able to label LTE as "4G" because of the fact that it was the underlying technology to eventually give us real 4G, in LTE-A. HSPA+ is not even the underlying tech for anything 4G, so I don't know what the fuck the deal was there, but I'm sure it was some "me too" thing AT&T did, threw a lot of money and lawyers at it, and eventually the governing body gave in (forgot their acronym). That's my theory anyway.
