I get it, not a performance enhancer but a difference in throttle delivery and sensation. |

The one that manufactures the b.s. device that he is gushing over. Does he even own a BMW?

Sorry guys but they do marginally and I mean marginally increase 0-60's (maybe a 10th second) as they can compensate for poor reaction times...assuming of course you get grip.
A very similar principle to shortening bike cables. |

The throttle controller actually takes away some control from the vehicle. It does nothing more than push harder on the accelerator pedal than the driver is pushing, taking away the driver's ability to graduate the pressure on the pedal. In order to duplicate what the device does, all the driver has to do is just mash the accelerator all the time.
As a result, it's not worth the price. Or any price. It is a negative on control. And it absolutely does not and cannot speed up "reaction times." It's a scam. We've said it more diplomatically, but here it is, all spelled out.

Secondly the one I saw had functions that limit the accelerator response to slow down a car. But the device does provide some placebo. Worth the money - no, safe no - to get any positive benefit, of use in the real world - no, increased brake pad wear- oh yes, of use on a track- yes (if you don't have launch control) scam perhaps depends how it's sold but my impression it's only worth the tangible speed benefit in specific circumstances and cars. If you are wanting blistering fast drags then the i8 is the wrong choice Or there are easier gains to be be made elsewhere. Last edited by Mightymousemighty; 03-08-2017 at 12:05 AM.. |

Seems like it'd be more trouble than it's worth on an i8. The i8 already has a very aggressive throttle response in sport mode. In comfort mode, amplifying the throttle position would mean additional lag as it started the motor every time. In eco pro or eDrive, it would totally defeat the purpose of either mode, especially eDrive since it might activate the kickdown and knock it out of eDrive completely.
So questionably useful for 1 of 4 driving modes at best. |
