BMW Watch

Ladies and Gentlemen can anyone identify the manufacturer, model, or place where this watch is sold? I received it as a gift a couple of years ago and need a replacement part.

I know, I actually saw them for the first time in Puma outlet. Still, a bit too much...

Read the post, it was a gift I didn't pay anything for it. Someone was thinking about me and bought it as a nice gesture. It is a good "beater watch" which is how it was described when given to me.

Don't recognize that one. The common ones you see at the dealer are just OEM'd quartz based watches that would normally go for $200 or less, but with the branding go for 300-600. Yes perfectly good every day watches.

Look at the BMW models, and look at the Porsche ones: they look ridiculously similar, to the point where the only thing different is likely the hands and face. Oh, and the P watch lists $100. Heh.

OP, lol getting opinions on the watch, but no answers.

To me it looks like a Girard-Perregaux knock-off, but a google search turned up nothing. Have you taken the back off the watch to see what's inside? No info in there?

Either way, this may help http://news.bmwofbloomfield.com/Coup...y-bmw-watches1

Thanks, I took it to a repair shop and forgot to ask them if the info was inside. Two shops recommended sending it to the manufacturer or a watch maker for the part. Not many want to touch automatic watches.

OP, what part do you need?
You might get better luck posting the picture (and detailed picture of the caseback as well) on a WIS forum, such as Seiko and Citizen Watch Forum or a Poor Man Watch Forum (google them). They might be able to help you identify the watch your BMW version was based on, and you might even get recommendation on someone who does repairs.

Just looking the watch doesn't strike me as any movement I know of. What throws me off is the 2 second hands. If it was a chronograph (stopwatch) it would have an extra second AND minute dials, but it only seems to have extra second... Nothing I've seen before, but then again I'm no expert.

Looks like the lovechild of a GP Laureato and a PD Flat Six.
If it has an automatic movement it is likely to have either a Miyota, Seiko, ETA or chinese movement. A good watchmaker (I am not talking about some design watchshop at the mall) can repair all of them.

The fact that the BMW Logo is not right might be an indicator that it is not a licenced product, + bizarre complication -> points towards china.

They do. Those are the ones made as "private label" watches by Tourneau. "Made" is something of a misnomer re: Tourneau and assembled is perhaps more accurate. Tourneau has it's own line of watches that differs little -- beyond styling and brand name -- from any other ETA-inside watch. That said, I believe the BMW watches made by Tourneau are quartz watches not mechanical ones, but I haven't actually picked one up to see for myself.

Josh over at Hodinkee had a little to say about one BMW/Tourneau watch. (http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/2010/12...-quartz-a.html) I am of essentially the same mind about them.

If they don't sell well and get marked down, I might grab one just for the novelty of it. That's not because I think they are overpriced or cheap or anything like that. I just don't want one in the first place because there are other things I want more. But I don't think there's something wrong with it. It's no better or worse than any other quartz watch. Plus, substantively speaking, there's not generally a whole lot of difference that's noteworthy among quartz watches assuming the case is well made.

As for the BMW watch in the pic, I don't know where it came from. I do know that to my eye, it's either a very unsympathetic picture or it's a hideously poorly made watch or it's old and the years haven't been kind to it.

Sneakers:
I did see those at my local BMW store some time back. They were on sale. I think they too are no worse than the non-BMW branded version of a similar Puma shoe. Assuming I liked the Puma-only version, I'd buy the cheaper one, regardless of co-branding. I mean, really, they are sneakers not formal pumps with a roundel on them. Just how much of a difference can that tiny roundel make on that shoe? How dig a "douche" would someone need to be to (1) notice it given how small it is, and (2) to give a damn. Aside from that, they look like white, blue and black sneakers to me.

All the best.
