I8 performance in snow, Indiana

Hi All,

I may move to Indiana and stay there for about 4,5 years starting this summer.

I already have a RWD F82, which will not perform too well in snow as far as what I am aware. Currently I am considering having an AWD car for winter. I want to get an I8 since I am not a big fan of all SUVs. Can anybody live there give me some advice? Is this a good idea or bad idea? Can ground clearance be an issue?

Thanks in advance.

Winter tires are required, regardless of your car, you could do it on your F82 easily and drive it all winter. If streets are plowed no issues with ground clearance on the i8....

With premium winter tyre I have had no issues so far this winter in Norway. Good traction and very predictable handling. The pre condition works very well and the Roadster design has no problems in the cold.

Cool, if you can do it in Norway. I think I will be fine!

I've installed Continental DWS06 (Dry/Wet/Snow) performance all season tires on my i8. I'm waiting for a good snow to see how they perform in the snow, but they exceed the performance of the stock tires on the i8.

2016 BMW i8 with Bridgestone Blizzak snow wheel/tire setup. Car does great, but as noted above, deep snow + low ground clearance of the i8 is not ideal. However, on most days 99% of the time it does just fine.

I'm located in Cleveland, Ohio so the weather here is even worse than Indiana, typically. You would be fine with an i8 just definitely need a proper set of winter tires. And as someone said your RWD F82 might even be ok, so long as proper tires + careful driving.
