I don't think this new eDrive35 has anything to do with the new tax bill. It was predicted months ago on the upcoming models section of this forum.

The interesting part, though, is whether eDrive40 will be switched to AWD. That was part of the upcoming models prediction and would make a lot more sense for the lineup of 3 i4 variants.

I get the price point might coincide with the new bill but this product wasnt conceived in 1 month, so this has been going on for a while. BMW Fix your damn production rate before you start releasing more and more models !!!
I think the dealers end up with preorder deposits and they definitely get the walk in deposits. I don't disagree with most of what you say, but BMW isn't getting the 'loan deposits' in the same way Tesla did/does.

Maybe a way of keeping dealers in business in this day and age of low production and not having to worry about getting more commission from sales. That way BMW may not have to give them more incentives as the car hasnt been sold yet. Its all too suspect with the way they r releasing all these models.

Yeah I agree, the deposit portion of this is definitely a bit sleaze. I have a post about a dealer claiming they couldn't refund me.
